Another great find, Navi.
Most people today know absolutely nothing of the Gadhar movement or about the struggles and sacrifices of those early Indian Patriots.
A lot of those guys gave up their futures for their country but after independence, they were seen as political competition and excluded by the powers that be. They have also been neatly written out of the history texts that children in India study today.
“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense” — Winston Churchill, Oct 29, 1941

Xl

I agree about how Indian politicians just pushed these Gadhars out. Most of these pioneers became communist and espoused that philosophy and leader of Gadhar who survived in India was Baba SOhan SIngh Bhakna spend some time in Jail after independence. Similarly there was another league which did much for Indian independence cause
Indian Independence League run by Sardar J J singh a businessman in USA. I never knew of him until I saw a picture of his somewhere, why wasnt he along with members who were lobbying US congress ever honored or even made Ambassador? What did Ms Pandit do to deserve this posting?
J J SIngh was called one man lobby army

J J Singh is standing 3 from right next to President Truman

You can read more about him in the book

Quest for Freedom: The United States and India's Independence
By Kenton J. Clymer

Bagha Jatin was tracked down and shot by very competent Calcutta police chief Sir Charles Augustus Tegart, he also policed Palestine and made those forts which controlled rebellion and if I am not wrong he was also on board of directors for Birla firm registered in UK..G D Birla was also involved with Bagha movement and some how escaped the dragnet and so directorship was a reward for a favor? I cant locate where I read this ....Birla later became the go between Congress and British rest we all know..
