A short write up on the Mark 1 IOFB revolver - http://www.pmulcahy.com/revolvers/indian_revolvers.htm

Just in case anyone is wondering, the current model (the one Anupam bought) is a Mark 2.

Cheers!

Any improvement of the IOFB's products is a positive thing. I only wish that they would collaborate with a good western manufacturer and make even better guns. There is no harm in doing this and they would most certainly earn the good will of their clients in India if they did.

Thanks Anupam and Abhijeet for the pics.

Would actually be funny... if we Indians weren't being forced to shell out almost 13 times the price!!

Ravi, a few questions...

Is your license valid All India ?

Have u applied to SAF Kanpur thru a Rs. 6000/- DD and sending their application form filled in with a attested copy of yr license ?

The TL is issued based on the NOC provided by Delhi Police (if u r coming to Delhi). Delhi Police would require the offer letter from SAF Kanpur to issue u the NOC.

Revolver looks OK!

Though very expensive.

Similar to old Trade Italian Break Barrel Revolvers in .22, .32 and .38 that flooded the US market in the 70's. Guns were Ok to shoot and sold for peanuts, before imports of these cheap revolvers were banned. Sold for $40-50 in 1980 versus $ 80 for H&R and $ 200 for S&W Mod 31.

AS somebody claimed shooting 4 inch groups at 25 metres.

I can say flat out not possible.

Best Bench rest Groups I see on range with excellent Pistols like Kimber and SIG in 9mm or 40 S&W are 2-2.5 inch. Experienced shooters too, practicing regularly, with target ammo.
4 inch with this Revolver not possible, no matter how good the shooter or whether fired single action. Expect 8 inches or so, even the old Webley seldom grouped 6 inches with Eley ammo. Just not possible with these break barrels.

RE: Somebody asking about microgrooves. Microgroving is a system of having many small shallow grooves instead of the usual few regular size grooves. It is extensively used by Marlin in their .22 rifles. Seems to work. Even the cheapest Marlin shoots good groups.

The micro grooves one member has talked about are infact scratches in the grooves left over from the rifling process. These are more visible in the .32 pistol than in the revolver. The scratches run parallel to the rifling and so should not affect accuracy. They are there as a result of the technician not properly regulating the supply of cutting oil.

Another thing, very little of the .32 revolver at Kanpur(except for the barrel bit and some other sundry parts) is infact made by the IOF.The IOF tenders for a majority of the parts( they do the same for the INSAS also ).I am sure there is a scam here. This might be the reason for the high price of the IOF firearms.

Hi Ravi, there is not much technical difference between the two. The mark 2 comes with a plastic grip that has finger grooves. And its foresight is slightly smaller than the first series.

What is the original design i.e. Webley Scott or SMith & Wesson based on which this IOF revolver is modelled ?
