IOF ASHANI .32 pistol

Post by The Doc » Mon Sep 17, 2007 11:32 pm

Has the ASHANI been modified further by the IOF ? Recently came across a factory firearm that works well !!! No jamming. no probs with the slide , no break downs !!!

best,
RP.

Well, that's how a gun is supposed to function in the first place. The IOFB makes it look like it's a world-changing achievement to produce a gun that doesn't malfunction or come apart or look like a blacksmithy product.

Ortho, wouldn't you think its better for them to just scrap the whole design and take a big leap forward with something more up-to-date and well made? That would lessen a bit of the pinch one feels when he is being fleeced such outrageous sums for farcical products. Instead they are simply milking a less than mediocre design and wasting everybody's time and money doing so. Its like trying to constantly tweak the Ford Model T for todays market and putting it in the BMW price bracket. Thats the usual thing that happens in Indian industry.... modify...modify...modify... milk the product to its limits.

O well .... my head's in the clouds...

Well... why on earth don't they simply blue their silly guns? Why waste time and money and everybody's breath fiddling with all kinds of finish.

I mean whats their blooming problem with bluing?...Just plain blue...BLUE for heavens sake!!

In my opinion there is a genuine reason behind not bluing the weapon.
in the Indian environment bluing shows a common problem of rusting.
Which i am sure many of us feel. Paint is a bit more reliable and above all it doesnt allow the metal of the weapon to come in contact with sweat of the owner.

Hope IOFB is not not using that as an excuse to continue doing nothing useful... :)

I don't see foreign made blued guns having too much of a problem with the environment. Not implying that they are rust proof but the problem isn't too chronic.

I suppose they've also forgotten the thousands of blued 303's and Brens, many of which, inspite of poor care in the hands of present day policemen, still hold up pretty well.

They get noting for the 303s
but for the weapons they do.

And There certainly is a problem with bluing.
I have an IOF 32 and a S&W Mod 31 and I can really feel the difference
And yes the 303s were not manufactured in India.

You could not be more wrong.303 Lee Enfield rifles were made in India before and after 1947.

Way back in the late 60's, my dad was a young IPS jock posted in Assam, in a decidedly humid district. A big arms workshop was among other things under his charge. They had a bluing section as well, which used to blue trailer-loads of police arms - certainly paint was readily available then and was the easier way out, but was not used.

I live less than an hour away from what was once the wettest place on earth. Obviously, if one uses a gun he'd lightly oil it once in a while. I do that, and no major rust problem.
