I don't believe in such thing as an objectively "ultimate" or best pistol, as Steve007 and HydNawab have observed. However, if we're talking subjectively, as in what my own preference is, then I'm with Baljit:
i dont know about anybody but i like my 1911 modal and i am happy with that

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

The ultimate pistol would be the one that I have in my hand, in a time of need.

Great writeup.... It is my favourite pistol .I m a beretta fan specially 92 fs inox with company fitted concealed laser sights.. but to call it the best is a lil unfair.
The Glock, HK, Sig Sauer, etc are all great modern firearms and all have virtues and features that are great.... so i dint think its that easy to give a crown out...

I quite like my 1911... I know it's not an option for most as of now, but if we all try hard enough who knows soon enough we may all be sporting copies of the 1911 made in India by IOF and deemed as their newest "high tech"/ "world class"/ "patriotically true Indian" pistol... I mean they've done it before - copying others designs and passing them off as their own is what I mean, and they don't even believe in paying royalties - all patents & IPRs be damned. Someone from IOF may even qualify for a Bharat Ratna award for his stupendous innovation! IIRC one of their "boffins" bagged a similar award for "REproducing" the drawings for the IOF .315 rilfe  If only we'd all known, we could have just pulled 'em off the net and each bagged an award as well (after all, the actions is the usual SMLE No. 1, with a few minor mods) ;)

....And so long as they get the specs right, you will have a plethora of after market bits & pieces to put in - so you can actually make the hypothetical (made by IOF) 1911 work as advertised!

Cheers!
