thats why baseball bats are handy thing, just imagine a bat with a spike sticking out of it. would you like to go near it? also take a few balls as well since once the spike is removed you can have a ball of a game. :D

Another valuable, inoffensive looking tool is the Kubaton.
They are cheap but when used properly, they can be very effective.

You can even make one yourself out of wood, plastic or metal. They even have Kubaton pens that can be carried and would be perfectly legal.
The only problem that I see with a Kubaton is that you will have to get close to the bad guy to use it.

Kubaton are for very close up situations, and would not recommend with more then one opponent at a time

it ok against a passive type of attacks but not against extremely hard nut.

also takes lot of training.

i do like the kubaton and have two laying around but would not consider for primary self defense, as one would have noticed that along side the kubaton training one needs to have other form of martial arts training.

better with a stone in hand, you can hit with it and once they run chuck it after them as well :D

that could get you in jail, just think about the legal implication as well as the view of the people, as no one likes an acid thrower. just to see what the police response to this, go to your police station and tell them of this and see what they say.

My choice would be the 'Gerber Guardian Backup'. It's a very low profile knife (I own one myself) and has a very nice sheath that can be worn upright and upside down. There is an adjustment on the sheath to allow for a quick release or you can make it tighter if you are wearing it upside down. It's got raw stabbing and slashing power and the grip is rubbery so it does not slip from your hands in the event of your attackers blood getting on to your hands or in the rain or while you were eating your favorite burger and someone sneaked up on you!!

Despite the good intentions of all the other members keep away from all the abovementioned toys as really serious trouble makers will just laugh at the toys and give you a real licking. Akshully you really need something like this :

to scare off wouldbe assailants! Just one look is enough to scare away most wouldbe assailants. Unless they are armed with guns. In which case all you need to do is to bring your open palms together and say your prayers!

One really amazing thing about this mizo bowie is that with a press of a button, Hey Presto! the whole 1.3' blade automatically recedes into its 6"x1" handle  I thought you were aware of this nags.. :D
Jokes apart, If you really try, you can really put it into your back pocket! Honest  Just make sure you are wearing armoured longjohns. The tip is so sharp, It'll cut clean through your inner pocket and into your trousers. The handle will remain hanging by its bolster inside the back pocket.. ROTFL

Here are my two cents on this... I like collecting a lot of knives...And some of the best knives I have bought are on hill stations....If your travels take you there you can get some really good knives to choose from. They will not be sharp and you would have to get them sharpened.

Please do not buy a swiss knife, folding knife for self defence... they wont be as strong near the joint...

In Delhi you may find some in the Tibeten market neat ISBT..

Also if your office guard is from Nepal... see if he can get you one on his next visit.
