1 year of a Rottweiler

Post by essdee1972 » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:55 pm

Hi Folks,

Finally took the plunge and posting photos. These are of my Rottweiler, Jojo. Will also post my "tools and weapons" collection (a rather miniscule one, but what the heck!). Some of the pics are real bad.... (high contrast - white floor, black puppy, wildly moving subject, blah blah...... lame excuses!!)

Image
Day 1 - 1st may, 2011: he was 1 month and 10 days old, had just road-tripped from Kerala to Bangalore and flown from Bangalore to Mumbai. And the first thing he does is play with a ball. The newspaper is for him to do his "business".

Image
Getting introduced to the camera!

Image
My two boys...

Image
Getting to know each other!

Image
I wanted a photo without him trying to lick the lens, so I lay down in the other room, camera ready, and called.... little chap comes running and skids to a stop seeing me and the lens pointed at him!

Image
A little bigger...

Image
Whatcha doin'?

Image

Image
First birthday! Receiving gifts from his bro!

Image
Dunno about you, but this is how I open gifts!!

Image
With his friends... party time!!
Cheers!

Wow, lovely Essdee, Jojo's a big boy, love his huge head. Me had one too, "Ozzy". Had to give him away as he was getting too much to handle. Jojo seems to do well with kids and other dogs.

Moin

Lovely looking dog there,Esdee.Looks like he has been trained well.Getting along with other dogs etc. Thank you for sharing these pics.

Moin,

Fantastic as they are, Rottweilers are not for everyone. If not trained properly and socialised, the consequences can be lets say unpleasant.

Thanks, folks!!

Moin, I would have loved to keep him in a 1000 sq. m bungalow instead of a 1000 sq. ft. flat! I hope Jojo doesn't get too big to handle!!

Varunik, why the tears??

Dev, no chocolates! He got a new collar, a body harness, and a few boxes of doggie treats / bones. We don't even give him choc icecream, though he loves icecream!

Vikram, we got him neutered, probably that's why he is not (very) aggressive. Plus my son's the only kid he is really comfortable with. Others he just "tolerates" (he almost dragged me, along with his leash, when my son had a kiddie fight with another kid! Even now, he growls at the other kid). And these two canine friends of his have been there since he was a puppy, so they play together almost every day.

Vassili, we specifically asked for a non-docked puppy. Actually, nowadays, show Rotties are not allowed to be docked, and since the kennel we got him from specialises in champs, etc., they don't dock. His daddy (sire, actually) was a Serbian puppy champ and Indian adult champ.
Cheers!

Essdee,

I am not taking away anything from the pleasures of sharing with us your joy and pride. They make excellent companions. If you haven't, I strongly recommend to invest time and effort in basic obedience training and socialisation. They are guard dogs first and it is built into them to protect what is their pack.Neutering is not the ticket to taking away aggression. You need not be afraid of the dog. But, you need to teach the dog what is OK and what is not.

I apologise for the digression.

Vikram,

Sorry I was not very clear. No need for apologies!! He's been trained, both by me and with professional help. As of now, the "chase" instinct remains, especially for bicycles (always, however, he stops when the bicycle stops, and wags his tail). Unless I am around to say "no". So I am working towards reducing the same. Most of the time, his reaction is curiosity and friendliness. Even with stray dogs, he approaches with a wary, but friendly stance (from whatever I have read on doggie body language), and if rebuffed / growled at, is more likely to walk away than precipitate a crisis!

Having old people alone at home and a lousy security in the building, I wouldn't want him to lose all the aggression / guard instincts. That's one of the reasons I got a Rottie in the first place!!
Cheers!

Hi Essdee,

Hope you don't mind my sharing Ozzy's Pics here, Jojo instantly reminded me of Ozzy...

Jojo seems to be from the Bronko/Ohinostros Kennels /Sukerchakia Kennels Bloodlines.. If so would be mentioned in his INKC registration.

Here's Ozzy's... Looked very cute but was true to his name...Bad decision on my part to get such a large guard dog in such a small hen house... Killed me to let him go. He was very attatched to my mother. bug*3r would run round and round in the hal and in full speed go into the bedroom and jump in my mothers lap who used to sit in a rocking chair. She enjoyed it too, wonder what would happen if he would do this after fully grown...

Used to sleep with all four legs in the air most of the times...

Was very attatched to my mum...

With his best friend, a huge bull mastiff... Both were like Jai and Veeru...

All lovey dovey and gay with the mastiff...

Lovely snaps.
Looking at the snaps I wonder if German Pinschers,Dachshunds (black),Rottweilers and Doberman have a common ancestary. They all look so similar as new born pups and have the same basic colour.

Beautiful pix Moin & SD - really wish the womenfolk of my house would allow my son and me to have a dog ! AH !

Anyway back to Jojo & Ozzy - goodie good doggies 'em both. :)

PS: SD-> Please teach him that running after *bikes* is OK; but running after *Chetak* or the guy on one is definitely NOT - lemme know when this training is done. ;-)
