Need of hunting in india

Since 1972 india has banned hunting to preserve its wildlife but nowadays the overpopulation of some wild animals like Nilgai,Wildboar,Hare and monkeys are causing big problem to crops.Due to lack of natural predators their population is increasing year by year.Nilgai most toughest antelope is also causing many road accidents.They become too fearless that they even attacks humans.Many measures taken by the farmers doesnt stop the menace of these crop raiding animals.They jump over the fence or even brake them.They damage 40 to 50% of crops every year.Swarm of grasshoppers become history now it is the menace of cropraiding animals(specialy nilgai and wild boar) that have frightened the farmers most.These animals damage all types of crops except metha crop.The main reason behind price rise of cereals is menace of these animals.Every week in newspapers i read articles about the damage done by these animals so i think the most effective solution is well managed hunting like in USA and other countries.By this we can control the population of these animals.

Hey just go to a villeige where nilgai are overpopulated i am sure you will hear many stories of fearless male blue bulls attacks.Here i dont mean attack by killing peoples.

I belong to U.P. and have a resident herd of Neelgai living on my land. I have never had the problem......unless you mess around with them (the males).

Me too. Have herds of about 15-20 moving around on my farm. They are very shy as it is. Of course they do mess up the crops, but for us here "chor aur mor(peacock, read as birds) ka pehla bhaag"

Plus, i believe we are looking at it the wrong way.
hunting can be allowed only if you have a strong conservation plan.
you cant allow hunting just because of an accidental increase in the numbers of a few species.
the present system works out to be pretty good, in my thinking.
if you have a menace, sort it out.
till such time as indian conservation still teeters on the edge of tomfoolery and sheer incompetence anay such moe will invite disaster.
we indians; give us a hand and we take the arm.

Hello Kazim
A lot has been discussed here regarding conservation and hunting, if you were to go though such posts you will piece together the entire collage. Conservation led hunting or vice versa concepts have been discussed threadbare. Its quite easy to talk about the subject but a whole different ball game, when one comes down to actually getting into conservation. I myself have given up hunting and became a hard core advocate against hunting, till I came face to face with two aspects, the first the amount of damage some species do to crops and the second, is the apathy surrounding our policy makers towards 'managed' conservation.
Actually, in India, we are just great at formulating 'policy' but when it comes to 'implementation', we come up croppers.
Its nice to know that you are one of the many here who are genuinely concerned. Perhaps your interest and motivation will lead you to a better understanding of the 'conservation' practiced in India.

no friend,biofencing doesn't help much in case of wildboars.we had lantana plants all around our farm,it was good to keep away few stray deers.biofencing along with barbed wire will be good, i belive, and thats what i am trying at present.

Dear friends i am not saying allow hunting of all species just allow hunting of those species which are overpopulated.I think by fencing your field you can save your crop but it doesnt control the increasing population of such wild animals.On conservation i say that hunting and conservation both are related with each other when a species become overpopulated due to conservation it should be hunted and when it become endangered due to over hunting it should be conservated.A GOOD HUNTER IS ALWAYS A GOOD CONSERVATOR.

If you are fond of dogs then maybe I can recommend a breed of dogs, who specialise in hunting wild boars and are meant to be kept on farms for protecting all forms of live stock.

i own dobberman and a labrador,
what other dogs can help,had german sheperd,it was killed by a cobra.won't mind managing a dozen.

try plantation farming like trees for lumber, thats what we did

Friends, no point discussing conservation based hunting being re introduced in our country UNLESS our able scientists find a way to inject Honesty in our DNAs. If one leaves the forest land alone long enough, it is capable of regenerating itself. But can we ???????
