Nrai rifles for Big Bore Gvm & Nationals

Nrai was very transparent in alloting rifles for participants of Big Bore Gvm at Kadarpur. They had print-out of all applicants (date/time wise) on a notice board. At times a few shooters had to adjust their details.
I used the nrai 308 Grunig free rifle for 5000 plus tax and qualified. What a pleasure to use. The only negative was the limited time you get to set up the rifle (Cheek piece, butt length/angle, Handstop etc)

Practise for Big Bore Nationals

Congrats !
Did you use the 6 mm or 308?

Do tell us more about your preparation.....
Did you practice with .22?
How is the sight picture of target at big bore range different than 50 mtr?

Congratulations. Its good to know about NRAI doing a fair job at it. Mine ended with badly bruised elbows and miserable shots.
It was due to last min cock-up of gun being late to set, had already missed the time to fire sighting shots ,But any way it was an experience, learned valuable lesson

Had made a request for 6mmBR free rifle but they were pre booked for my detail for Gvm, Nrai official offered the 308 free rifle which I used.

I did train with a friends 22 target rifle.
Sight picture for me at 50m & 300m was fairly similar, except for the smaller rear sight dia of the Nrai rifle peep sight due to my fully extended butt setting.

I think the key is to remain calm (yoga helps), even if we don't get enough time for sighters. I got time for 3 sighting shots which luckily was enough for me, another young air rifle shooter, using a friends 6mm, who never shot big bore got time for 1 sighter and scored 285/300 in Gvm.
Have been told one click of the Nrai rifle Gehman rear peep sight shift the poi 9mm at 300m, ring width is 50mm.

Update - 59th Big Bore Nationals at crpf Kadarpur, Gurgaon

Post by sat » Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:30 pm

Nrai ran out of 6mmBR match ammo for the Nationals perhaps due to the large no of entries for Gvm (pre nationals) & Nscc. Hence there were hardly any takers for Nrai 6mmBR free rifle and a mad rush for the solitary 308 Grunig & Elmiger free rifle. One shooter had to postpone his detail thrice to get the rifle. A friend kindly lent me his Grunig so I was spared the stress of coordinating rifle and detail availability.
Nrai should consider importing a few more Free rifles for the next Gvm & Nscc.

yes the entries were record. There were more than 670 entries in the GVM only and the national ran even on the holi day. But i guess its good for us, there will be more players to give stuff on rent and it will bring overall cost down too.

Good afternoon fellow members,
Can a M1 Garand modified as a straight pull be be used in big bore competition, as it fires a 30'06 round?
