Dear friends i think you dont understand the gravity of the issue or you dont want to.If you spend few weeks in a village you will see how much anger has been developed in villagers.Suppose if they start poisoning these overpopulated animals what will you do.Today if a poacher hunt a nilgai you can easily get him behind bars.But if a hole village start doing it what will you do.

right friend, i too have farms in such areas and i have suffered a lot, but as it was taught to us in schools Earth belongs to these animals too(and thats right too), but i know the economical loss which people bear due to them.

hunting isn't bad, depends on the situation.
hunting and conservation can be done hand in hand.
do you all remember '' veerappan, sandal wood smuggler''?,his presence in forest was a dread to petite and big time pouchers,now as he is gone,no one is scared to pouch.we see lot of pouching more than what we saw during his life.its a fact, the govt is unable to digest and accept.he was unconsiously protecting the forest.(my view)

I would agree with only a part of what you said Doc.
Unfortunately he did cause a lot of damage to the flora and fauna of the area. In todays times we can not (and should not) glorify poachers.
I agree with the fact that out of Veerappan's fear others were not poaching in the area.

Though I have never visited the jungles where he operated. I have visited the Chambal. An area notoriously known for it's Bandits. I was pleasantly surprised to see wildlife flourishing in the area. From partridge and quail , to rabbits and blackbucks . There are still fresh water dolphin and gharial in the Chambal river.
The fear of the Daakoos had kept everyone away......including industrial development.

Those days are gone. The dacoits and bandits are gone for good. Last December , I drove to Gwalior and found the winds of change. The revines were being encroached upon (along the highway). The land cleared for aggriculture and Industry.
I am sure in the days to come . The dolphin and the gharial will be gone for ever.
