Why in India import of pistols/revlolvers is banned

Post by T T » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:09 pm

The government provides license to general public to bear arms but do not allow to buy guns of their choice, even if they have money. However I think MPs and Defense personals are allowed to import guns at duty free rate. Is this discriminatory policy against the public to safeguard the monopoly of IOF?

Like cars or computer accessories ,small personal arms should be allowed for imports. There is no harm; only the govt. will make money through customs duty.

Long ago when Jaswant Singh had become Finance Minister he got clearance for his sons for PB license and importing 9mm handgun, his son bought a Walther P-99 for 82000 rs. from Customs stock of seized weapons news papers covered this and were not in favor but his son coolly replied "I am doing a favor by buying the confiscated weapon".

Looking at all this i always feel better study go to a good foreign university get job there and never come back to india as democracy is a sham here.

Now recently Indian Army also highlighted same govt, policy that though MP,actors, business hot shots are civlians too but they are different wrt to aam aadmi and laws are different ,just recently ranbir kapoor visited a Special forces base in nahan for an NDTV show Jai Jawan, now this wouldnt have happened had it been SAS or delta force IIRC once Tiger Woods wanted to visit the Delta compound in Fort Bragg and he was denied to do so,and once i had asked an SF officer difference between roles of Para and Para(SF) units he told me simply "Its classified".

Government does not "provide" arms license, rather it is guaranteed under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India. Government is merely issuing a copy of the same. For details you may read these:

Is this discriminatory policy against the public to safeguard the monopoly of IOF?
Even if it is to safeguard the monopoly of IOF, the public should be worried about safeguarding itself rather than safeguarding IOF. Short answer is, it is ignorance of the public and nothing more. It can be challenged in court, you may read this http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 30#p146250

Boris, you have touched on the heart of the matter here.

Remember the famous quote from George Orwell's "Animal Farm"?
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
While "Animal Farm" was supposed to be a depiction of the horror and futility that was the Soviet Union under Stalin, it seems that one can find many parallels to what is happening in India today. When I was in School, we were taught that India was a Sovereign Democratic Republic. In 1976, they amended the constitution with the words "secular" and "socialist". While secularism follows as a matter of course in any democracy, socialism and its concepts are abhorrent to me and I'm sure would also have been abhorrent to the framers of our constitution. If it wasn't they would have put it in there. I don't believe they meant the Central Government to have so much power. In a true democracy, there is absolutely no way that an MP or unelected bureaucrat should have more rights than the common man in the street.

Read Animal Farm if you get a chance. It is not a children's book. It is a lesson in Government and what to watch out for.

However, there is still enough of the democratic spirit left in India that you can vote the offending politicians out. Don't vote along Party lines. Vote for the person who most closely follows your way of thinking. Yes, guns can be a litmus test. If a Politician thinks that guns are the problem and not the people who wield them, his/her other positions will probably be illogical too.

Well said XL.

The politicians here in America think they are Royalty. They have way to much power, and remain in power far to long. It seems even the honest and righteous politicians struggle with so much power. If you are familiar with The Lord of the rings, it is like they have the Ring and go crazy with it. Don't vote for people that want your guns, it is freedoms' suicide.
