Phesama | January4: NAGALAND LEGISLATIVE Assembly (NLA) speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie today appealed to the youth to embark upon the fields of games and sports with utmost dedication and devotion “as our youth possess with a fine physic and stamina.” Inaugurating the games and sports event as part of the golden jubilee celebration of Phesama Youth Society here this morning, Peseyie said that games and sports will help the youngsters in refraining from evil habits.

“…. to be a great sportsman one must have good health with sound mind,” he said adding that if the youth adhere to this principle it will not only provide a noble carer for them but will also bring laurels to the state as a whole.
“I have every expectation that this event will provide ample opportunity to all the participants to demonstrate their talents and the quality and spirit of sportsmanship of superiority,” the speaker said. Peseyie also advised the sports men and women that although winning is important, one has to remember that there has to be a winner and a loser in every match.

“While rejoicing with the winners we should also equally applause the efforts of the participants as well,” he said adding losing a match should not bring about a feeling of anguish or depression, rather it should bring a stronger determination to do better in the next event.

“What is more important is that whether you win or you lose, you should always play with a sporting spirit,” he said. Peseyie complimented the PYS towards making a significant contribution in the field of games and sports.
“And it is well known the role played by the Phesama Youth Society to instil exceptional sportsman spirit in the village youth. I hope they will expand its activities to serve the needs of the youth in the village in the days to come,” he said maintaining that games and sports in this prevailing society play a vital role in creating cordial relationship amongst various races and tribes, creating goodwill feeling of oneness in the minds of the human kind. Track and field events, Marathon, Naga Wrestling cum free style and volleyball will mark the games and sports event.

Neilhou Chuse, Rtd director & DIG vigilance commission & anti-corruption Nagaland and Vikekuo-o Zashümo, chairman Phesama Village Council will be the match patron for day 2 and 3 respectively.

A good number of sports persons from four groups- Viyiema, Makhuma, Seikhama and Merama are taking part in this sports event, which will continue till January 6.

Those they use as wake up calls!!!!
But it is high time the north eastern chaps got more resources. They are naturally athletic and india would do wonders at sprts meets if it woke up and developed the games infrastructure there.
