How did I end up buying an air rifle?
Well thats a big question! Buying/owning an air rifle was my childhood dream... for which I waited for all these years. My initial hesitation to buy an air rifle due to the fact that it might be cumbursome to carry it with me back to India, due to all the restrictions laid by the Indian govt/ customs and also the family members
, was overcome by my desire to buy an air rifle to quench my thirst of owning one. I am not a member of any rifle association nor a professional shooter.
One might find this silly, all I ever owned were a series of plastic toy guns that shoots out plastic pellets/ bullets. But my ultimate aim was to buy a quality air gun in life... so since I am now settled in Dubai, I thought... whether I could take it back with me home (Chennai) or not, I just was passionate about buying one.
After reading this forum for a couple of days... I decide to buy one at Al Sayad opposite to Deira City Center in Dubai. Before going there I called their phone number and enquired whether they had a PCP gun which I ultimately wanted to purchase. Yes... they did have a Walther PCP Air Rifle. I went there and saw a couple of models they had (04/Jan/2012) they had on display a 3 Gamo rifles.. a Gamo Shadow 1000, a Gamo whisper x and 2 other models of Gamo. They also had Weihrauch models and Diana models. Unfortunately they did not have any hand pump for the PCP model. So I decided to go for a spring action. I saw HW57 and almost fixed to buy that... when another customer enters the shop and confuses me and I finally end up buying a Gamo Shadow 1000. It was way cheaper than Diana or Weihrauch models. It costed only around 845 AED, which he finally offered for 750 AED. I buy that and Gamo 4x32 scope and 4 tins of .22 pellets.
After coming back... I was still under confusion and wanted to go for the HW57... I called the shopkeeper that I wanted to change... he agreed and I went back to the shop. This time I wanted to buy a HW57 but he didn't have .177. So I finally settled for the Diana Panther 31 Compact... since it was compact and lighter but also powerful. Since then I have fallen in love with my gun.
So far I have just done target practice at home. From 22 to 23ft distance shooting a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" target card (Gamo). And trust me the rifle is just amazing. I am just waiting to do outdoors with my gun. Only problem is that it requires too much effort to cock the gun and every day I cannot cock the gun more than 10 times as my hand start paining after that. I am just looking out for any tips to make the cocking easier. So mates.. this is how my purchase experience was.
