J Mason custom PSK fixed blade

Postby choombak » Fri Feb 17, 2012 1:19 pm

Got this J. Mason fixed blade recently - 1095 steel, chisel grind, Personal Survival Knife (PSK). The patina is due to vinegar and mustard, and not acid etched. Notice how subtle the maker's name features - it is almost invisible while viewing in some angles. Came with a kydex sheath. Not very costly, just under $150 including duty and shipping.

Does Vinegar and Mustard have this effect on all steels. Very nice blade Amar :)

Here are a couple of sharp ones from Poland. It is said that they have rural origins and used by the local humans for opportunistic mushroom pickings around the greenaries - hence are regularly carried in pockets.

Proper introduction by gents who've seen them around, is desirable and most welcome !!

The bottom one looks a lot like an opinel without that circumference lock.
Also, photos and stuff very pretty. I'd love to see specs and reviews of all these knives.

RingMaster - LionTribe designs

Postby choombak » Mon Mar 26, 2012 12:17 pm

Mike of LionTribe Designs made this RingMaster knife. He specializes in "tribal" designs with similar curves on all knives. Its presently on its way to me. Yay!

W2 tool steel, just around 8" long. Lion Tribe specializes in making similar shaped blades (the curved belly) in a variety of tool steels. The idea is to build knives based on designs of various tribes. He does custom work, however this knife is not custom done for me - I liked it, so I purchased it. I have no idea how much it is to cost me - depends on how much duty I get levied, and any Octroi that gets slapped (if any). I'll update with the total cost once I have it in my hands. It has shipped without any tracking or insurance, since Mike stays in a very remote location in central US, and USPS is not very friendly around those zones. Hopefully, it does not get seized or stolen, since I have no way of knowing it. Its a gamble, and hope it favors me. Fingers crossed.
