Nice one, Asif.

Will get back to this knife thread once I have completed all my drawing work. Should be done by tonight.

Mack The Knife,
Thinking of leaving it slabless, just the 10mm lanyard hole and round off the birds head?
Lets see if Pradeep will give me one in damascus ...
Can ask him for a 5mm blade and 3 mm tang, then put some decent handles.

Asif,

It's a good design - almost reminiscent of my Hattori - but requires two things:

1) A subtle stop to prevent the hand slipping onto the blade (especially if you were using an icepick grip).

2) Your handle still looks a bit short. Needs to be about 4.25" long at least.

I would go for a tapered tang. If you want to drop weight, you could always drill holes into it.

A guard, Asif.

Takes a very experienced user to use that kind of knife and even then you could hear the occassional "Ouch! Shit! Ouch!". ;)

Mack The Knife,
Hopefully, as a presentation piece , it'll stay in the display unit of the drawing room or , the trusty Godrej [value addition :0 !!]

As my fav rave goes-if push comes to shove...then both parties to the act may well go ouch etc etc!;)

Rusty,

I think that your very first design is the perfect one. Very nice lines. My vote is for that one. I was thinking of having three different designs, a "decent" sized Bowie, a mid sized like your first design and a smaller 2" Toad stabber. But then like Grumpy pointed out, the Bowie and the 2" will not be "practical". So, I'd say we should keep it simple and your first design is a perfect example. Maybe a thin fillet knife, perhaps. Sorry, no design. Maybe something like this one.

or this one

Just do a google search and get "inspired" by a simple design. I'd say, ask once more for designs, then freeze the thread, start another one asking for votes (orders) on each one.

Jonah's blacksmith will become a millionaire, what will all the orders pouring in. ;)

I also like the "lazer" engraving idea.

Sounds good to me.

Bit too late in the year to start production on one, so we can keep this thread running until I return early in 2007 and then put it to a vote. Hopefully, it will also give me the time to check the quality of the Mizo bowie.

Incidentally, the first pic wont show but that's a really nice looking fillet knife. Got a name for it?

Thanks.

Hi Rusty, I just did a google search for "Fillet knife" and put the two simplest ones I found. Here are the URLs.

Again I'd say, your very first design is perfect (for me atleast).

Glad you liked it. Needs a bit of tweaking to the handle geometry though.

I am afraid I am getting a Gateway Timeout for the first link.

Rusty, just try to go to the Seamount Knifeworks website at http://www.seamountknifeworks.com/. Click on Gallery, the first page is Fillet Knifes, the pic I posted is a 4". The rest of the knives on this website are awesome too. I'm sure you'll like them.
