Capped Bullets .318 WR

Postby Katana » Sat Jan 29, 2011 11:11 pm

Could anyone elaborate on the need and application of capped bullets? Have attached a photograph of 3 .318WR cartridges. From left to right: 180 grains solid, 250 grains soft nose and a capped bullet of unknown weight, all 3 manufactured by Kynoch.

The cartridges certainly dont look like the same caliber, but I could be wrong. The cetner one is a soft point, while the one on the right is probably designed to break on impact.
No idea, and I did stay at a holiday inn last night.

W-R's "Capped" bullet was an expanding bullet, like a soft-point, but with delayed expansion, to provide deeper penetration. Not unlike the old Winchester "Silvertip" bullet. They were available for all of W-R's proprietary cartridges. There were two styles, an "L.T. hollow pointed capped bullet", and an "L.T. capped bullet".
