How hard it is to get a firearms license in India?

How hard it is to get a firearms license in India?

Post by Karan13121999 » Fri Apr 24, 2020 11:19 am

I don't have any particular need for buying guns aside from my interest in them. How hard will it be for such a person to get a firearm license in India? What was your experience & What reason should i give to the authorities?

The problem is not with the arms act but in the administration. The licensing authorities donot have an oppurtunity to understand it as there are no formal ways to understand the act in a short period of time, they simply do what their predecessors did or ask the babu for assistance. This problem can only be solved only when there is a central agency that monitors all applications like a passport.
I think the best way forward is for the central government to accept all applications online, process them like a passport application and send it to the local police station for verification. Every saturday they can keep it reserved to interview the applicants at the various passport offices in this country. These existing passport offices have an infrastructure in place to monitor such applications.
Going forward all applications if approved would to sent to the concerned licensing authorities for signatures, they can put a note, incase they find any criminal background of the applicants which may have been overlooked previously.
The manual licenses should be replaced with magnetic cards like a bank debit card, the licensee would have to open a special bank account in any of the rbi registered bank at his locality. He has to deposit 1lakh as interest free deposit (refundable)with the bank valid for 10 years. This interest from this deposit will cover bank expenses. All gun dealers will be given a special swipe machine, which will be used for sale, purchase etc and the govt charges as per schedule will be deducted from the licensee's account or he may pay by his choice of payment. Post purchase he will be sent a link where he has to display his weapon via a live video call session. From time to time the govt can exercise this video call option to check stocks of individual's firearms and ammo.
This will remove red tape and unnecessary paper works, will help stop harassment of licensee and will exercise greater control by government over existing license holders......

In the end we have only ourselves to blame, how many of us filed a case against authorities? we kept believing the fact that license is only for the influential, but the fact remains, the act is meant to arm law abide citizens and it is still is that way. We need to understand the act and make the best of it. It will require patience !
