Rajat,
What a wonderful paradox! Made by the "Best" gunmakers of the day and maybe the finest ever. There is magic in those parardox barrels. Did you know it took twice as long to complete the standard Holland Royal engraving pattern as it did for a Purdy? Please try and take a close-up photo of the engraving in natural light without the flash!?

Really. There are still Maharajas in India?Which India are you talking about. As far as I know, there are no Maharajas any more,India is a Republic ruled by elected representatives. The Indian Constitution has abolished all titles.

Must be a dream that I had.Of course there are Maharaja's in India ruling through divine right.Indians live in trees drinking monkey brain soup and offering human scarifices to their gods.So he lives in a palace and so must be a Maharaja.Of course. There is no freedom movement. No Indepedence .No Equality and equality before law.No constitution and no Parliament. Infact such institutions are not required as we are blessed to be ruled by Maharajas.

The people who call themselves Maharajas, can't even be called 'former Maharajas' because except for one or two still alive, they were never crowned as Maharajas/Rajas/Nawabs.Their families can't be called 'Royal' as after 1858 with the end of the EIC rules, this title was applied exclusively to the British Royal family. They were now only prices's who ruled with the approval of the Crown. The very legitimacy of the son of an Indian prince hinged upon the recogonition of this by the Crown in the form of a letter congratulating him upon the birth of a son.

penpusher.
we both know what i meant.
It was not a political statement but a response to gatsby's query.
I am aware of the history i agree with you. I am aware of the present indian laws and constitution.
My aim wasnt to hurt anyones feeling but just to inform gatsby about the descendants of Prince (dare i use the word) bijey singh ji so he would understand the genealogy.
I also wish to state that the person in question didnt wish himself to be addressed that way but i did it because i thaught it would be easy for gatsby to understand the genealogy.

I also think that we are deviating from the topic.

Gatsby,

I must have a sixth sense - the Keira Knightley analogy was perfectly apt! 8)

What a beautiful gun!

Notice that the thread, except for this last two posts, is 14 years old. Somehow, the pictures have been taken down in the last 14 years.

Nah, don't say that! I miss the dates and do it all the time, too. I also checked archive.org to see whether an archived page was available, but no luck. Of course, we want to see the pictures!
