The paper cartridges are preferable to plastic IMO. Less pollution burden on the landscape. Can easily be reloaded. I especially like them for black powder reloading. And the pressure offered by roll crimp is better and more consistent. Of course, the down side is they swell up if exposed to moisture.

In BP reloading the BP burns through the plastic leaving tiny holes in the wall! Doesn’t happen with paper, for some reason

BP burns slower than smokeless powder so it is better to use paper or brass shells or else it will get enough time to burn the plastic

I have used plastic hulls - so now I cut a strip of craft paper and insert it as a sleeve in a plastic hull. But prefer paper for BP. Hell of a muzzle blast and love that stink. The price one pays is the soapy hot water and elbow grease for the clean up :(
