A very nice revolver!

You can see in the video that it has a generous coat of oil on it, but the fit and finish of it are beyond most anything you can buy today. The color doesn't come through well in the video, and the oil doesn't help, but the bluing is really blue -- called "Colt Royal Blue" and not black, which is commonly seen today, caused by the caustic process which is quicker and cheaper to apply. Now, of course, there are the new coatings like Cerrokote, but the bluing you see here, when new, almost looks like you could jump into it and have a swim.

I cannot be sure, from this video, but it almost looked to me as if the firing pin has been replaced. You CANNOT dry fire these revolvers! You must have live ammunition or snap caps under the firing pin when dropping the hammer.

There would be an immense amount of pleasure in shooting this revolver, and great pride of ownership possessing it!

Thanks for sharing.

Comrades,
Faisal is an honest Gun dealer based in Kolkata and is known for keeping most guns in original configuration for sale. He charges handsomely but leaves no scope for complains. Only thing this revolver lacks is an adjustable rear sight which i guess can be easily installed by an able gunsmith though it may deter from its originality. But at the same time can be an excellent target or field gun. Itoo had a Colt .22 LR Diamondback (6") for along time and eventually swapped it for a better deal. Needless to say it was as accurate as the shooter could be.

With a gun this nice, I would hate to turn it over to someone to start drilling holes in it, with various results.

The way to get adjustable sights on an excellent Colt revolver is to have the excellent Colt adjustable sights, like on this Officer's Model:

Image

This is the premium version of the Official Police from Colt. Note that the top strap is squared off, so that it can mount a rear sight that is dovetailed into it. The rear sight has a slot cut into its base, so that the shoulder of a special screw can be turned, moving the sight for windage. Then, there is a small lock screw in the base of the sight to lock it into place.

The front sight is then adjustable for elevation. the sight blade is held in its base on the barrel by a small cross pin. In the very front of the base (which you can't see in this photo), is a small screw that pushes on the base of the blade to elevate it. Then, the small locking screw in the side of the base (toward the upper right) locks the blade into place.

These provisions are quite unlike a modern adjustable rear sight, that can be varied both for windage and elevation, but this system used on older Colts is more compact, not having the bulk of the common adjustable rear sight to hang up on things.

You can check out details here: https://coltfever.com/officers-model/

Note that the First Model described uses the old Army and Navy Model lockwork, and isn't the same as the Official Police with it's Schmidt-Galand action. Later issues did use a modern version rear sight and a ramped front sight on a heavy barrel.
