The shots seem to have been taken at night, so I'd guess that the culprit was practising loading his magazines in the dark and got one loaded the wrong way... rack the slide and presto! :roll:

The shell shows markings where the extractor would have scraped against the case in a vain attempt to hook onto the cartridge...
