Cheers for this. I read another test report where the stingers did not expand much when fired from a 2.5 inch beretta pistol but the upside was that there was deep penetration due to non expansion.

In light of all this, is a HV .22 LR chambered gun as good as a .32 S&W Long revolver for SD?

The same rounds fired from a revolver would give different results,I am sure. Also there is a slight improvement in MV when a cartridge is fired from a pistol, than when fired from a revolver.

I would always go with a bigger caliber and heavier bullet. .25 over .22,.32 over .25,.380 over .32 and so on and so forth.

A bigger caliber+heavier bullet = :D MV be damned. Make the biggest, deepest possible hole in a baddie.HV stuff behaves in a funny manner in short barrels.

and off course PLACEMENT.

I am happy with my IOF .32 'hathoda' .Over priced, sure but not as much as the 'phoren' stuff.Another thing, selling one is a pretty straight forward affair. The dealers margin's are small, mostly 1500-2500/- and the going market price is easy to find out.

Thanks PP, I think the Ashani is VFM too. However, still will look around for a week or so and then take the plunge.

It's not VFM but still better than being ripped off buying 25-50 year old stuff.

Well, relatively speaking it is VFM ;-)

I think I'll just go for it, even though he's asking more than he should (1.50k). I'll get it reblued and get a nice set of wood grips made.

BOUGHT IT

Post by amk » Wed Jan 21, 2009 2:25 pm

Guys I finally made up my mind and bought the Charter Arms Undercover chambered for .32 S&W Long.

I checked it out as per Abhi's advice and everything checked out fine. I also did some functional tests I found on some revolver forums. Fired 2 Indian carts without the bullets in them as the dealer did not want to fire live ammo in his shop.

It has gone for blueing and should be with me in about a week.

I won't declare the price unless someone here wants to know.

I think he removed the bullet (Lead) and fired the normal ammo as a blank

Paid 2.75 for it including the rebluing.

We took two .32 Indian carts, removed the bullets and gun powder and fired it. Just to check the firing pin strike. They were dead centre strikes.

Unfortunately I didn't take the before pictures, if I get a chance to see it tomorrow and it's not already stripped I'll take some pics.

If your main purpose is self-defence / concealed carry.....I would suggest to go for .32 rather than .22 calibre.
