Post by eljefe » Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:09 am

Some good shooting - 400 gr DG bullet, right upto 1000 yds. 😉

Go, the .404!

This is great safari rifle of late 19th and 20th century. Talking about the YouTube channel, these guys have an awesome shooting range at their disposal. The couple enjoys shooting long range with various bolt action rifles. I have been watching their videos for long.

Enjoyed this video.

I’ve taken my .404 upto 200 m with irons and scope, because that , for me,is a practical max range. Full house 400 gr Woodleigh at 2250 FPS do begin to say hello after 20 rounds 😉

I have 350gr Woodleigh which I should try upto 500- if this damn lock down ever ends.

Handload them.
I found 100 Parker Hale cases NIB. Then I found I could form .375 RUM back into its parent case .404, with a 2mm loss in case length. At a fraction of the price of .404 cases.
I also use a nose pour Hoch mould which gives me a 0.425” 380 grain RN, epoxy coated with Hi Tek epoxy I push them to 2000 FPS

Vikram, all the double rifles I’ve seen and used had the swing swivel well away from the chop. On the underside of the rib.
I’ve never had this problem on a bolt heavy rifle , either on the bench or in the field. I guess it comes with muscle memory? Hand grabs forend at same place every time ? But it IS a real world possibility
