There is an inherent goodness in the IOF's design, albeit plagiarized, the system behaves well after a little tuning, I personally couldn't ask for more from my rifle (pic below) this is a 4-shot group with two different brands of factory ammo shot, prone at just a little over a hundred yards. Bottom line is, other rifles may look and feel better, sell faster, handle well, drop your jaw open, etc etc, but given the alternatives on the Indian gun scene, the IOF will go head to head with the best out there and in most cases end up shooting rings around the competition! Save, maybe a dedicated target rig.

I rest my case!

Cheers!

Relax winnie, i was asking if you had handled any imports. If so, i'll take your word for how they shoot.

X375 - that's a very tight group.Did you use a scope? That ammo looks french..? Also does a 30.06 only make that big a hole?

Safarigent sahib, there is always a competition next time. For now, that's the end of the debate. How do you manage to practice with the ammo quota?

On the 50 m range with the .22lr rifle. Same sight picture and minute of angle requirements.
.30-06 is 7.62 mm mate. Nothing big about it.
The ammo is federal and sellier & bellot.

Nope, with as many rounds as i want. Thats because my state association supplies members .22lr, .32 and 12 Gauge trap and skeet ammunition, to use and return empties and any unused ammo back.

What did you do when you began? You had to practice somehow before you got good right?

How much do you pay for state supplied ammo? And how many do you shoot to stay sharp?

z375 - Is it true you have a steyr barrel?

z375,

Since the bolt locks into the barrel, would it not be easy to make a tubular receiver from steel with a hanger welded on for the trigger unit and a mag well to take the magazine and a ventilated handguard? How about turning the IOF 30-06 into a tube gun? ideas... ideas

To begin, i got membership of dsra and the kssr.
And i am not good. Just an enthusiastic shooter, thats all.
I pay around 32 bucks a pop for shotgun ammo and iirc around 16 a pop for .22 ammo. No idea about the .32 as i dont have time for that.
Z375 is lying, he has a titanium barrel hand forged by jungfrau wilhelm nordenheim. Steyr just happened to be the piddly firm which put its name on the front of the building!

...and to add to that,it is one of those rare beasts,a Sauer 202 clone with a barrel made by Jungfrau Wilhelm Nordenheim,Rare because normally the rifles that are made are the ones sold by Steyr under its name.
