Grumpy and Mark,

Have sent Mike Ahlman an e-mail and will let you know what he says.

Grumpy, what's the best way to shut the gas port?

The gmail address is functional, so you can e-mail me on that.

"what's the best way to shut the gas port?"

Why do you want to close off the gas port ? The rifle won`t cycle at all if you do such a thing........and trying to extract a spent case might be hilarious if the case is tight in the chamber as the bolt lever is tiny.

Incidentally, check out this :

Mack The Knife, can I see the Remington sometime? - just curious to see what it looks like.

For the time being, you see it at... http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?t=1292

Last two pics show it a little more clearly.

Should it be left as is if I convert it into a pump-action?

Oh right, I see.
The gas mechanism will have to be disabled to convert the rifle, the fore-end coupled to the piston and a carrier rail arranged. Nothing to it............................

Before trying to do the conversion, just strip clean it and try a new mag.

It might just solve the problem.

Dodger, can you email me your gmail a/c address again as it hasn`t entered into my contacts list for some reason.
I`ve just sent you an email with an attachment - to your old a/c - which has been rejected as `spam` - AGAIN !

Grumpy, e-mail sent.

Sanjay, the only hic-cup this rifle had was with the original magazine. The person who owns this rifle was gifted two by the owner of a Bangalore gun shop, which has solved whatever problem there was. See... http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?t=1169

The rifle was stripped and cleaned within a day of it changing hands and has been kept clean eversince.

Can a Garand also be converted to a pump action?

"Can a Garand also be converted to a pump action?"

An M1 - or M14 ?
Well yes, but it would require the facilities of an expert machinist......and a good carpenter.......and a fully equipped workshop.......and a pile of money. The Garrand is rather more complicated in that the piston and operating rod drive a cam system which rotates the bolt whilst opening it. Mess up the timing and the rifle just wouldn`t function.
The conversion kit exists for the 742 because the rifle is prone to functioning unreliably which is definitely not the case with the M1/M14.
Frankly, it`s not even worth considering.
