BTW guys, I also owe Inder a very big thank you. He had first dibs on the Pro-Sport, at the price he sold it to me + cost of Venom kit, but let me sell it for a higher price to meet the cost of the Mauser.

Recession my friend recession, other wise what you think I would have let go that Pro sport -- :x

On a serious note, it’s a very little price to pay for all that help, learning and pleasure of your company all these years.

Congrats once again Rusty,

-Inder

Congratulations on aquiring this fine piece of history. I'm happy for you.

Inder, by "treat" you mean allowing you to run a couple/few rounds thru, eh ?

Hearty congratulations,Rusty. What I call a proper rifle. Can spend a day just holding it, working the bolt now and then etc. I am particularly happy that it is going to be preserved in the original condition, get shot, taken care of very well and stays in India.

Inder, you are a gentleman.

Best-
Vikram

I'm happy for you, I anyway don't like rare old mauser rifles long as you are happy...
That's a good thing because I don't want you borrowing it and then pounding the butt into the ground. Ummm...?
Egads you would let me play with it ;-) still. Ah okay in that case...me like your thunderstick but I still think you still draw in air in great volumes.

Vikram, whilst the diamonds on the chequering are still sharp, the stock was re-polished in Bangalore. A closer inspection reveals a bodge job - sanding marks and excessive staining in some places. There is some decent grain, though not spectacular, under the present finish and I will get down to oil finishing the stock at some point of time.

Other than this I need to import English hook type swivels, have a front sight hood fabricated based on the original design and get a period gun bag for a scopeless rifle.

If you ever come across an original front sight hood such as this at an auction, snap it up and I will reimburse you.

Also, if any of you have come across gunbag designs from the 30's or 40's for open sighted rifles please let me know.

Sharief, Indian, Yash and Prabhath, thank you.

Indian, this rifle comes to the shoulder and points like a shotgun.

These rifles have a classic "purity" that is so palpable -- and I can well imagine that it handles like a thoroughbred, too, as you noted. Congratulations for getting a piece of history and a piece of art that happens to be a wonderful rifle.

You are right Mack The Knife.mausers are excellent rifles and a member here(herb) has a few of them.i have handled a few Mausers(30-06,275,8 MM) which belonged to my relatives in india and was very satisfied.i must say that you have got a very nice one.i came across a few mausers on my last trip to india and they all were plain junk refinished to look shiny.

cheers,
Ravi teja :)
