Vikram,

The VoVapen clue is tantalisingly close - if you dig a little deper, you'll have the answer. I think that you're the closest to the answer than anyone else.

penpusher,

A very good viewpoint. I am sure 99.99% of people in the world would agree with it.

Grumpy,

It is Vic ram.

Cheers, gentlemen!

I thought it was 'Vic Rum' or 'Vikh Rum'.

Grumpy, do you see a bat there? I posted a lame chap with a black-eye and hopping around with crutches and I see the same. That was to indicate that I shot off my mouth a bit too early.

If you see carefully, English poet is followed by a 'comma' which earlier had playwright next. The website doesnot allow a longer signature and to fit in the next one, I cut the first one shot.

Yes sir, I am a sorry @$$ abstainer and I work in a bar from where I just returned. My pretty Chinese colleague Yao calls me "Weak Rum" to which I always respond that I am a strong rum, a very strong one at that.   It's spelt "Vic" as in Victor and "rum" as in the beverage rum. It means the valorous one which I am not.

Why oh why put yourself down when the board is lurking to do it for you. ;-)

Of course you are the victorious one and never believe otherwise. After all I am the light of the Gods. :-)

You`re right Vikram - having examined the Smiley more closely I see that it does have crutches.........Guess I assumed it was a Bat from the frenetic way that it is charging about.
Oy, izzat sum reference to my current mode of locomotion ? !!

"geographically speaking, another move is now required".

Is is made by the Finnish Valmet?

If not,

You spoke of the Husky tooling going to another company. It was taken over by FFV/Carl Gustaf in about 1970.

"The 1900/1970 is of course HVA's greatest design and with it's super-smooth, super-reliable action, also one of the worlds great rifle designs. Production only lasted for three years, when all gun production rights, designs and tools were sold to FFV/Carl-Gustaf".

Grumpy, this is probably my dim wits, but somewhere something is not fitting in the scheme of things. Still snooping around.

Ah Vikram, but then production was transferred to another country and another maker......who, when the production of Husqvarna named rifles ceased, continued to build them under their own name and still do so - this is a new rifle.
This is going to be difficult......Sorry `bout that !

Eureka! This time for sure eureka! It's an Antonio Zoli,Italy, made rifle. Just as I was reading your mail, I stumbled upon the info that Zoli makes a modified version of the 1900 Husqvarna rifles. And the engraving on the rifle neatly fitted that info.I for long was fixated in Scandinavia. I cannot take credit for finding it out. Other knowledgeable people and Grumpy's pics made it easier.

Congrats Grumpy on this beautiful rifle.

Yes, well done Vikram. Of course the photographs I sent you might have helped......little things like the clearly indicated `Made in Italy`.......
I don`t think that you could read the actual signature though.
Hopefully we can get those pictures up so that others can see the engraving.
How are you doing with the other poser I sent you ?

No fear of that Mack The Knife - I think Vikram needs these challenges to keep his enquiring brain ticking over. After all, what`s he going to do for inellectual stimulation now that he`s finished studying ?
- Of course he might enjoy crossword puzzles instead.............................
