Why don't you buy from your local dealer and avoid all the headache like booking the rifle, getting NOC/TL, traveling etc.
I agree with Vineet ji. I got mine from my local dealer. No issues and it was brand new. Do your research thoroughly. You should not pay more than 1.45 lacs.

Regards.

Yes sir, I am looking for a good deal in or near my district but things are getting a little sticky due to corona and lockdown. Any suggestions if I should get some modifications done? I want to participate in 300 meter prone and free, so is there anything I should add/modify to the rifle?

Congratulations Uday on acquiring a licence. IOF 3006 is a good buy at that price range. I bought mine some 9 months back from a Kolkata dealer at 1.4 lacs. After the strike at Ichapore last year many dealers hiked the price from 1.6 lacs onwards. I hope you get a good deal at your place.

Regards
Asif

Hello everyone, there is something interesting I want to share with you. I visited a local gun dealer searching for a good deal on IOF .30-06. I have previously known this dealer but never had any interaction with him. While enquiring, he told me that if I can wait then he can arrange imported big bore rifles "FIRST HAND". Yes, that's what I heard, first hand imported rifles. I asked him how, he said that it will be allowed by government in some time and within 6 months we can expect to see Savage and Winchester rifles, though they will cost a fortune. I still can't believe what he said. Does anybody else know about it? Or is it just a speculation? I want to believe him because why would he tell me to wait when he could have tried to sell his current stock? The man seems legit to me. Seniors please share your thoughts, kick me if it's just a dream so I wake up.

Well the firearms scene in India is alive with rumors and hearsay these days. There was also news of Colt and Smith and Wesson coming to India which was briefly discussed here.

You have a point. No dealer will ask a patron to wait if he can score a sale in the now. So, he is probably acting on good info. I will suggest you ask him for more details. Since he is a firearms dealer, he will have far more information than most of us here.

I wonder if he meant the govt will allow import of foreign weapons by dealers, or is it that they are going to allow foreign players to get into joint ventures with local manufacturers? If it is the former, then will the import permit be restricted to rifles, or will it include shotguns and sidearms as well?

That's the catch. When I started asking further questions he said you have ample time for purchasing your rifle, if you can wait then it's worth waiting because you can get a good IOF .3006 easily in 15 days but if you purchase it now and then want to buy imported one, you will be at loss.

You could ask more dealers to concur what he said. Even so, the guy you're talking to might be the most well connected, so, may know more than others.

There certainly is some chatter about big changes about to be made and foreign players coming to India flying around in firearms circles. At this point all we can do is wait.

Can anybody inform me how to identify/differentiate latest make IOF .3006(2019 or 2020) from previous makes? Apart from mag capacity I don't know of any other difference.
