What are the better 30.06 rifles available here? I know there are a few Rem bolt actions floating around, what are the other good ones?

Unless you have 5+ lacs as a budget, go for the IOF .30-06. It is accurate out of the box and can be easily scoped with the correct bases.

In fact even if you have a big budget, it is worth considering.

Cheers!

Hi,

I have seen Winchester Model 70s. I also saw a Parker Hale. There are also CZs.

Regards.

The IOF is something of an old standby.I know with some work it can be made to shoot well.

However, i was looking into other options just in case. The win 70...did you see the old ones or those they watered down in the 60's? Yes but the CZ's are beat up i hear. There was also one with a hair trigger, i forget which.

Any others? I suspect the rem and win will cost upwards 5.Will they be worth that kind of premium?

If you are lucky you may find one for Rs. 3,50,000 to Rs. 4,00,000. Only you can decide whether to pay that much.

All the best.

How would a Rem 700/Win mod 70 available today compare to a tuned IOF? Will it shoot 3-4 lakhs better?

skyman,

You do not need to work on the IOF 30-06 to make it shoot well.It is more accurate than the vast majority of the imported, over-priced stuff floating around,as it is.You do need to work on the aesthetics and in some cases, the magazine.

:agree:

I own a IOF .30-06, and it shoots dead accurate with a scope mounted on it!

Why do you want to buy a used rifle?
Will a brand name help if the rifling is worn out or the throat eroded, or no spare parts readily available?
Think about it.
At best, you will get an 18 year old fire arm.
People saying, that its nib condition are taking you for a ride. Rifles are meant to be shot. And they are.
The iof .30-06 has been shot at the nationals and has shot scores upto 520, that i myself personally know of.
how much better do you want a rifle to be?
Save yourself the money, time and possible duping.
Use the spare change to get more ammo and practise.
It will be well worth it.

Do not know because I have never shot one. However, those who have, report excellent accuracy. Therefore I feel comfortable telling people to buy one.

I didnt shoot well. If i had, i would be the proud owner of a lovely target grade match rifle.
But i have seen people shoot very well with it. That 520 was shot in the previous national. And this has been the story before also.
Skeetshot, a very respected and senior member here, whose achievments and the laurels he has won i wont even mention, finds the accuracy comparable to his blaser r8 shooting system! Infact, the humble iof outshot the blaser using old fmj rounds!
Its a good investment my friend.
Shoot the rifle, your doubts will be allayed.
