Does it look like the rifle in the link ?

https://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/items/388446

The cartridge info is :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.32-40_Ballard

I have seen a few Francotte rifles. Strong actions, can be rebarrelled to modern smokeless ctg like .222,.218, .357 mag etc.
the cartridge is still being made and can be reloaded too.
More info here :

https://www.chuckhawks.com/32-40WCF.htm

As to resale value in India, maybe someone in the know can help?
Cheers

i dont think it will fetch any good amount. considering only 2 arms allowed to any civilian no one is going to invest in any obsolete caliber and also finiding ammunaion is also very tough task.

Splendid. I’m guessing it’s manufactured in early quarter of 20 century. Absolute use worthy.

Anksthakur, that's quite a lovely rifle! I have a very soft spot for Martini actions, and consider them the best of single shot types. Francotte was/is a Belgian company that modified the Martini action, which allowed the lockwork to be removed as a unit. Some Nepalese Martini rifles copied this Francotte feature. It is a real shame that reloading is so restricted, since you could have lots of fun working up loads for this rifle.

Unlike many single shots, the Martini action, along with the Francotte modification, used a striker-fired lock, rather than having a big, heavy hammer, sometimes on the side, to slam into the action on firing. Martinis have quick lock times, as well, for another accuracy-helpful feature.

I have long looked at smaller Martinis, such as the Cadet action, and desired one. That probably won't happen now. The small actions like yours are really lovely weapons. Thanks for sharing!

Obsolete bore single shot rifles like this typically sell for between 4,000 to 6,000 rupees, if you buy it from a dealer. Of course the dealer would offer much less if he were to buy it from you.

Cheers!

This is an inherited quality in us, so we cannot sell it, it is precious to us.
