I'm down but not out.. And I'm very stubborn. I'll return to shooting again as soon as life permits me. This sport has given me so much, that I cannot think of quitting.
A job provides food for the stomach, but a passion is food for the soul.

The "kill time before time kills you" thing means "keep doing stuff before your time is up and you die".
It means don't sit around idly, but rather kill time (timepass) by doing something constructive or learning something new...before your time comes... Coz time kills all of us in the end. Until that day, keep killing time with new interests and hobbies that add value to your life.

Your words have strengthened my resolve. As soon as I can manage it, I'll return to the way of the rifle.

Does becoming a renowned shooter in air-weapons category( ie. 10m air pistol or air rifle) help you to get an arms license? Or do you need to qualify as a renowned shooter in firearms category?

Hello there, my friend. Sorry for the very late reply. I hadn't logged in for a long time and even if I did visit IFG, there's a chance I had not noticed the notification. As far as your query is concerned, I cannot say with 100% coincidence that qualifying in air rifle events will guarantee an arms license. However two things are working in your favour.
1. One of my friends had qualified at 10 metres but didn't make it in the 50 metres prone smallbore rifle event that year. However he applied for an arms license and eventually recieved it. The next year he competed in prone again and this time he qualified at the Nationals, becoming a Renowned Shot in firearms also.

2. There's no mention of this in the Arms Act. I think a Renowned Shot is a Renowned Shot, regardless of whether he shoots Air rifles or firearms. I maybe wrong but I don't remember any rules from the Arms Act that says one needs to be a firearm shooter to get a firearms license. Besides, the licensing authority and the police don't know or understand much about these sort of issues anyway.
