Yes, It’s really important that you carry a gun for your personal safety. I recommend that you should own a small handgun that could effortlessly be concealed or slip into your side pocket or purse. I don’t know much about how easily one could obtain a weapons license in India but down here it’s reasonably easy. Every other person is armed. In fact it’s a part of our culture. Well, most importantly, YOU SHOULD know how to operate a weapon before you lay your hands on it. Remember, Your life is too precious to be risked at the hands of a worthless criminal. Pratice target shooting to improve your accuracy. Atleast 25 rounds per day. ............( ( Subject to the laws of your State / Province )

Buddy,
It all depends on situation as well area & location of your home.Like me living in farm house 12Bore With 00B (may bee banned in INDIA) or best avaliable IOF BB will do good enough with chocked / full chocked barrels.

But suppose if somebody entered in rooms than only my pistol will be usefull.
First of all you should have enough practice to use firearms becuse handling a situation needs good command on your wepon.
Here in India most people not evenfire single shot in many many years, so they can't handle any situation with firearm.

a 12 bore is a 12 bore , plus in the room i say revolver no spent cases, ha ha ha
also stopping power is very very imp, since .32 and and above are prohibited bore (.357 is a drity secret), one in a self defense situation needs good stopping power, maybe a .32 hollow point to the head or heart, or a 12 bore anywhere.
to each his own

We might actually want to thank the Spambot because it brought us Timmy's excellent and well reasoned post. Anyone who is interested in using a firearm to defend themselves should read that post, maybe twice. It should really make you think. It also gives us a chance to hopefully have a frank and honest discussion on the use of deadly force in the defense of yourself and your loved ones.

Many people don't think about the realities of using deadly force against another human being. If you're not absolutely committed to following through with your decision to use that deadly force, then you shouldn't pull the weapon out and/or brandish it. If you're not willing to use it, it can be taken away from you and used against you and your family. You have to also decide how important your family's safety is. After all there is a chance that you could go to jail for using the weapon. Are you willing to risk the jail time so you or your family may live? Using a firearm against another human should be absolutely the last resort when no other means will suffice.

Carrying a firearm purely for self defense is an awesome responsibility. If someone humiliates you in public, you must be mature enough to walk away because the alternative is that a human being could lose his/her life if you escalate the situation. If you're involved in a traffic accident, you must be able to control yourself because the alternative is that a human being could lose his/her life. If you have been drinking or are under the influence of prescription medication that could make you misperceive a situation, can you stop and remind yourself that this could end someone's life. Do you have the self control and strength of character for this? These are some of the questions that we must honestly ask ourselves before we strap on that weapon.
