Ithaca 1911A1 & Berreta 92

Post by mashh1 » Fri Jun 22, 2007 1:52 pm

hi this is my ithaca 1911A1. its my fav gun. best trigger, feel good in hand, hits hard and can hit a coke can at 50 yards.Recoil is controlable and bark is low as compared to 9mm. ihave made thses grips made from camel bone but i have original intact.

this is my Berreta 92, i do admit that i purchased it for fame associated, and investment purpose. a new black Berreta will sell here for PKR.385000/ and ionx will go for PKR.4 to 4.5 lacs. which is due to basically monoply of dealers, but prices of handguns are way too steep on your side. we have also suffered a ban on imports fromm 1999 to 2005, which caused a sharp rise in prices as this Berreta was available in 40 to 50k. i have heared that new import of guns will only be allowed from china in future but its ok as their guns are getting better with time. their current polymer cF-98 in 9mm is very good gun espesially the rotating barrel lock up, which is theoritically more accurate, although i find the gun very accurate. I have previously handeled Colt All American 2000 which was rotating barrel design but very ammo selective. but CF-98 is fine with all type of ammo i have tried.
i will post pictures of my other guns soon

Mash,

A couple of really nice guns you have there - thanks for sharing :)

Just curious but is there any limit on the number of guns a license holder may own in Pakistan?

Cheers!

Very nice, I see you like the stainless/nickel look ;) I do too, easier to maintain I think.

Mashood,

Whenever you have time, could you please post closer pictures of the markings on the 1911? That one really has me intrigued.

Congrats!

Mash,

You got some good hardware out there, looks like there is no Cal restriction in your neck of the woods.

Are there any restrictions on ownership of semi or autos.

Best

Mehul, I do very vaguely recall that Ithaca 1911s are pretty valuable collector pieces... I could probably be wrong though?

thanks for views
Abhijeet there was a limit of 3 guns i have heared of, but after complete ban in 1999 and now computerized Machine readable Licences are being issued from centeral govt. i think there is no limit as i have apllied for two handgun licences and i got them. i have heared such thing when DC or DM was issuing but then i have seen people with more than 3.
Mehul, hope u dont mind with this shorty name, i have tried it but never could find a way to nice pics. although i will try with some paste in markings.
Snjay we have calibre restriction as strict as yours till 1990,(same year i got my ID CARD and applied for licence) when all calibers upto 45, were opened for general public. i have seen a very beautiful colt M1917 revolver in 455 but u cant buy it. our LEO use 9mm and 38 special but it is not ban here. Full auto is strictly ban and laws are very different for them as they are prosecuted not under Arms Act 1965 but under Anti terrorist act. some people have issued such licences, then cancelled, mostly political natured.
cottage chase, no ithaca are not particulary collector piece but all ww2 GI guns are enjoying a rise now adays in US. as my gun is plated it is only shooter grade, but i love nickel plated guns and i can never take it to us so i enjoy shooting it.

lever action. these Ak rifles are strictly semi autios in calibre 5.56x39(.222) for which licences were granted till 1996. after that a complete ban was imposed on .222 & .223. then in 1998 till recent years another calibre was introduced with the designation of 44 bore. it is the same cartridge 7.97x33 which was introduced in the ww2 by germans along with STG44. All these rifles are permenatly modified to fire semi auto.this calibre is now also banned. even in the USA Ak style semi auto rifles are popular among citizens. their receivers or action are prementely modified to fire semi auto only.

well its not proper thread and i dont know how to split them. i want to ask Abhijit about the photo of Armed & Friendly on news section. the guy who have two pistols in hand, which gun is in his left hand. it looks like a colt commander or sometimes its look like a spanish made copy(lot of brands, Star is most popular). i like colt commander very much but have seen only one which was not for sale and it was .38 super for which ammo is a very hard to find.

Mash, as lever says, I saw one sec guard with a newer shorty M-16 variant, Only visit to karachi in Dec 2006.Same street of jewellers  , I was leching the guns, while my colleagues were shopping!
I would have sworn this M-16 was the type with the vertical handguard and light holder was similar to that currently in use in Afghanistan by the yanks...didnt want to ask the guy for a snap! He didnt look too friendly
Wasnt the STg 44 a 7.92 Kurz?
Tell us more about the gun ban ban and how it was lifted...
