A strange looking Insect nest

Post by Shivaji.Dasgupta » Thu Mar 10, 2022 4:45 pm

Hi all,
The attached photo is clicked by My daughter. It's some sort of insect nest or colony. It's on the trunk of one of the water apple Tree at home. I am traveling right now for some official purpose so my daughter send me this pic.
After 12th I parted myself with Zoology and Botany and paired with Geology so unable to figure out anything. Looking very artistic design so I put this picture here.

Doesn't seem like a design of insect origin, at least nothing I've ever seen/ read about.

Hey brother , it's not a nest . It's the insect itself . Five of them - Big and lovely . This is also found on Tuar Daal plants in a small size . I do not know the name . It would have been very helpful if the pictures were taken with the small scale placed ( affixed ) next to it .

Later they will look like shown in this picture . They are also found in the bushes alongside tropical rivers in our country. I have a faint impression that they bit me sometime . The sting was very mild .

Will send you the scalled pics shortly. By the way thanks for clearing about it. So it's probably the early stage of a furry caterpillar.

Dear Shivavji,

It is a caterpillar, then you should wait for few more day (probably 8-10 weeks) to turn that itself into a beautiful butterfly.
