son of Mizo Bowie

Post by nagarifle » Wed Nov 03, 2010 2:51 pm

i paid a visit to my local post office and what i found laying around for me? yes uncle Jonah sent me a gift.

like a small kid full of joy i hurriedly tore open the long box and wow, it was the son of Mizo bowie.

it turn out to be well balanced tanto style knife/working tool. long handle, which was comfortable, blade did not show of ware and tare after few swings at bamboo pole and wood block was hacked at. well worth going to the post office for.

now don't all of you rush to your post office to see what uncle Jonah has sent you. first give him a small gift of few ks.

thank you uncle Jonah. :D

Tell the son- Hi from my side. I have his father, but I really like the Tanto. Now if Jonah was just to go the whole hog and discover the Mizo Katana ROTFL .

Nice knife Naga. It is always interesting to see knifes originating from different regions.

It appears to be a nice and efficient work knife. The point is slightly different from the traditional tanto style. A pointed tip is always not required for a knife. The chequered wood grip looks good too.

What about the sheath. Is it Croc imprint leather? does it have any sort of inserts. Is it the traditional style (does not appear to be) or is a modified version. Details will be appreciated.

Watch out at 10" you would not want to get caught carrying it around. Although knives used for domestic and agricultural work are exempted but you will need a lot of convincing power to prove that this is one.

what is this style called in the local language?

Great work Jonah. Naga, nice clipper for your cigars.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Oho, Jonah's been busy again. Wakizashi pattern, no tsuba handguard, tanto geometry...
you know Naga, that 6mm sole leather? fawn colour, smooth on one side , rough on the other? use that (with a fiber liner) for a friction fit sheath. hand stitched ofcourse.

Hey Naga,
At first glance it looked to me like a Bonsai Jap Katana. What you gonna use it for, your toenails? Could be tricky, with the tummy blocking the view. :D
Happy hacking or whatever,,,

In the North East, not a worry mate :D , Daos and similar blades adorn several waists. Be it Nagaland or Arunachal Pradesh. Fortunately the tribes dont resort to the 'Urban Primitive' thinking when comes to tools(Urban Primitives Read: Edged Weapons) Congrats Naga.

Jonah  , Mok lage Katana, Bisi sharp.

Agree with you OUP. Us city dwellers cannot help thinking of this other than the Urban way. It is indeed a tool depending on the use one puts it to.
