Now if you want your knife back you have to hire a good lawyer who can talk to the customs about arms act and size regulations. If he is so concerned about killing with knives just how does his wife cut vegetables at home....

If you have all the time and patience in the world ..you can always opt for legal action, be very clear about one thing that it has been always difficult to get clear explanations for possessing knives or swords .

As 'Mundaire' suggested, you can give them a letter and see if things moved forward .

Hello Krishnam,
If I were you, I would file an RTI asking why the knife is detained along with the concerned section of the CBEC manual that prohibits import of knives for personal use. The Indian arms act interpreted any which way does not prohibit import of knives.

Filing an RTI is a lot easier these days. All you have to do is seek information from the concerned department and pay online at https://rtionline.gov.in/‎

Pran

Poor choice of words - "survival" shouldn't have factored in. "Trekking, hiking, required for setting temporary shelter using dry tree branches, and food prep veggies etc that you carry" should have been the response. I have had my fixed blades released through airport customs using the same line. Also avoid using "weapon" nut choose "tool" or "cutlery"

I'd recommend another visit on a relatively quiet hour. Also read the Arms Act, and be prepared to argue using a normal tone. Chances are they may just release the knife to you if you are able to maintain tone, be respectful, and tell them firmly it is allowed by the law.

It's not worth trying to get it from them. Risk reward is not in your favor, I had a similar problem while improrting through fasttech. I ended up buying a Walther rescue pro from kiehberg.in
