My DIY Hybrid Knife
The Ontario Blank was courtesy fellow IFGian KSHITIJ. Being inspired by the blood groove that I saw on a ‘BUSSE’ Combat Knife I decided to incorporate it on the Ontario blank. This was achieved by making ‘countersunk’ depressions & grinding off intervening material using a conical grinding bit attached to a DREMEL. It was very time consuming, needed a steady hand and lots of patience. Apparently the one appearing on the BUSSE must’ve been achieved using a milling cutter on a lathe machine or through ‘spark erosion’.

The handle was fashioned out of teak wood, liked it because of the subtle pattern that ran across it. After shaping & sanding to a smooth finish I used araldite to fix it on to the tang + brass rivets & applied 2 coats of ‘wood coat polymer’ with a matte finish….the look & feel turned out to be pleasing…

“The Hybrid” - Feels good to hold and would come handy during camping & other outdoor activities!

Brihaji,

You have a remarkable control over these 'hand grinders'.

Thanks AD!
After sanding, I applied a dab of machine oil, gave a good rub & finally put on a light coat of Wood-Touch (matte finish)!

Pratik, if only I had the good fortune of having a belt sander, the blade too would've looked far better :D
