Do any of the member have an idea can i get 256( 6.5x57 )and 30-30 ammo,planing to sell my 250 Savage.

Its tough but not impossible to find 30WCF ammo. You can try - India Arms Corporation, Lucknow. Tel: 0522 2229715,2226161, I think they still have some Fresh Silver Tip 150 grain 30WCF in stock. though I checked with them in last year the cost was approx 150 INR per Cartridge

Many dealers have told i could get it in north lucknow and kanpur.

Its 6.5x57 (.256) not 6.4x57. You can get its cartiges very easily in every shop. The fresh stock of sellier & bellet is available in the market between 80 to 110 Rs.

Just a question.. How do they get this so called fresh stock. Can dealers import ammo?

Yes it is in import. Only sellier & bellet cartiges are available in india in fresh import.

I am still not getting it...Can dealer import ammo..

If is it so then why .22 sells for RS14 a pop when it’s available in US for $7 for a brick of 500

Import of ammunition is allowed to arms dealers subject to the following condition

"An import licence/certificate/permission shall be issued at 5% of the value of the annual average sales turnover of ammunition (whether indigenous or imported) during the preceding three licensing years subject to a minimum of Rs. 2000"

I wish! Unless you are refering to KFs. These cost between Rs.10 and 12.

Imported ammo, depending on age and type, is anything between Rs.22 to Rs.60 per round.

Above are Bangalore prices.

As to the why, ammo is one way to make a living considering the trade in firearms is slow but there is greed as well.

I was talking aboout the range price of imported stuff as you told me once. I never thought they will be so costly with the dealers. Man these bu$$ers are talking wayyyyyyyyyy big margins....

The prices at the range wary from Rs.5/- per round for SK Magazine to Rs.14 or 15 for Eley Tenex EPS, per round.

The Tenex was only issued during the Naionals. I use the past tense because KSRA made its shooters use SK Magazine or Standard Plus (Rs.6/- per round) during the last one or two Nationals.

No point in talking about range prices here though. This ammo has to be used at the range and the empties returned before leaving.

Yes offcourse dealers can import Ammo it they hav import Lics. As i inquired one of the dealer regarding import he said the ammo which is not manufacturing in India (NPB) are allowed to import.and he is importing regularly.Now one question which arised in my mind that India is manufacturing .12 bore ,.22,.32 ammo ..then how they are importing these Cal. ammo,,,he answered that it is illlegal to import them.only allowed for rifle clubs.He is ready to import any ammo on demand(NPB) minimum qty 500-1000 pc.

This is the import policy regarding ammunition:-

I2.34Import of Ammunition by Licensed Arms Dealers

Import of following types of ammunition are allowed against a licence/certificate/permission by licensed arms dealers subject to the conditions as may be specified:

(i) Shotgun Cartridges 28 bore;


(ii) Revolver Cartridges of .450, .455 and .45 bores;



(iii) Pistol Cartridges of .25, .30 Mauser, .450 and .45 bores;



(iv) Rifle Cartridges of 6.5 mm, .22 savage, .22 Hornet, 300 Sherwood, 32/40, .256, .275, .280, 7m/m Mauser, 7 m/m Man Schoener, 9m/m Mauser, 9 m/m Man Schoener, 8x57, 8x57S, 9.3 m/m, 9.5 m/m, .375 Magnum, .405, .30.06, .270, .30/30 Winch, .318, .33 Winch,.275 Mag., .350 Mag., 400/350, .369 Purdey, .450/400, .470, .32 Win, .458 Win, .380 Rook, .220 Swift and .44 Win. bores.

An application for grant of a licence/ certificate/ permission for items listed in paragraph 2.34 above may be made to the licensing authority in the form given in Appendix-8 alongwith the documents prescribed therein.


Only the import of ammunition that has been specified ,is permitted.This also include the import of .45 ACP and .455 ammunition,both of which are prohibited.The import is allowed as per the value of the ammo and has got nothing to do with volume in terms of no. of cartridges.
