brother, you are defiantly going to make your o/u or sxs to 2 single barrel guns. world over 90% TIN + 10% SILVER is used to join barrels+ Ribs , which will easily vanish when you heat barrels at 180 DEG before spraying powder coat .

well...fancy modern commercial cold blue and classic rust blue and brown are about the only useful chemical finishes that can be practically applied on most doubles... the latter two being obviously more durable. The industrial standard caustic hot blue will chemically devour solder in a matter of moments and the resulting mess is far beyond 'oops'.

Adding a wee bit of potassium cyanide to the caustic mixture will generally prevent catastrophic caustic/solder reaction...but hey..we're talking potassium cyanide.... LTTE grade. Not something you or anyone should be fooling around with whether with extreme care or even in extremely wee quantities :) ...For a slightly more detailed warning read my next post.

Commercial cold blue if done with a lot of care and patience will produce good results but it isn't as durable and hard wearing as rust blue....

cc

dear CC

Please rephrase that sentence re KCN to make it sound more dangerous and less useful for guns. Many DIY jokers on the internet. I hope no ones uses this tip.
One can never be careful even if the quantity is in milligrams.

POTASSIUM CYANIDE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS... FATAL.... POISON....YOU WILL DIE IF YOU BREATHE IT , ACCIDENTALLY INGEST IT, GET IT ON CUTS OPEN WOUNDS OR MUCOUS MEMBRANE OR IF YOU USE IT IN ANY MANNER THAT IS CASUAL OR LESS THAN EXTREMELY CAREFUL.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED-YOU WILL DIE !

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRY A DIY KITCHEN OR BACKYARD SESSION WITH POTASSIUM CYANIDE - YOU WILL DIE OR YOU WILL KILL.

...ah! got you there again ... commercial cold blue invariably contains selenium dioxide .... poison.... meaning you handle things with care there too.

have fun!
