Post by pratik_mahale » Fri May 04, 2012 8:15 pm

I came across one product called metroark 211 compound by WACKER

Details given on the cover is
Useful at pressure at least 1 x 10^6 torr.
Stable from -40 C to + 204 C
Resistance to variety of chemicals
Insoluble in water
Nontoxic

Is an excellent lubricant for demountable or movable joints in high vacuum system and valves & stop-cocks in high temperature, high pressure systems.

Deleted for incorrect information.Mod

EDIT: Sorry about that, I was just stating what I have experienced. One of my friend used bicycle grease on his airgun for years without problem. I've seen a guy using whipped cream in his 91/30 as lube. I may still have the picture, just need to dig my HDD.

If its a spring piston with a leather piston seal i guess any oil or lubricant will work as the seal tends to absorb the lubricant and would never starve, but if its synthetic (delron or nitrile) the lubricant film tends to break imparting a drag on the piston...variation in velocity.

WD 40 or singer oil will damage the o-rings of a pump, pcp, Co2 air guns. On a springer it will cause dieseling and also slowly destroy the seals. Might take a bit of time though.

I was suggested and told by the experts that dry film moly lubricants should be used for air guns. They adhere to the metal parts and last for long time. What is important is that dry grease should be preferred.
