.22 IOF Revolver won't fire

It is my first time purchase. The .22 IOF revolver won't fire. I have gone through the manual before using the Arm. I think I have checked evrything possible. The machenism i.e. the hammer & the trigger are working very well, so there is no problem there. I think that the problem is the ammunition. The cartridges are of the same bore as the Arm and is of Eley make too.

Please do advice.

Very surprising ..let me ask you few question.

1. Did you get the striking pin marks in the cartridge after firing ? if yes are they on the rim or in centre ? and lastly are the prominent ?

2. How old the cartridges are ?
3. How many cartridges you have tried ?

Regards

Hi Mhksmk;
Please check the cylinder gap (head spacing) and the timing before firing the revolver again. Also, check for weak coil springs, they can also cause ignition failures - specially if your rounds have hardened primers. I've never used Elys.
Best to have it thoroughly checked out by a trained smith before firing.
The other possibility, as mentioned by to_saptarshi, is that your rounds are squibs.

hi
im using the same gun from last two years and didnt had any problem except jamming of spent cartridges. if the hammer is striking properly on the rim then problem could be with the cartridges. i face it many a times when i use old cartridges.

On the first try the firing pin mark was at the rim, but on the second & the third time there were no marks ay all on the rounds. On the whole I have tried three cartridges.

So the firing pin is not striking the primer.........

Thats where you should send it back to . The quality control of these factories is pathetic

Hi mhksmk:
Have it checked out by a smith or return to factory under warranty. The timing has to be checked for each cylinder separately. Check for a bent cylinder axis pin. Also check the length of the firing pin. Please don't attempt to fire it again till everything is sorted out.

Thanks for such a valuable advice. But, then have paid good money for it.

More, they don't give refunds.

My suggestion also is to return it to the factory. There are other ways of repairing guns but the point is you should not need to do that with a new gun!

The dealer, in Mumbai, when selling the Gun said it was brand new. But, when I called him about the problem; he replied that he can do nothing about it. Think he has fleeced me and have made the deal unethically.
