Hello from an Amercian Ishapore fan

Post by Blackmatt » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:06 am

Hello everyone,

I live in Washington and enjoy collecting the L1A1 Self loading rifle. This interest led me to the Ishapore version- the 1A.
I also am interested in the Ishapore Enfield.

Any folks on this forum share these interests ?

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Cheers !

Welcome to IFG, Blackmatt.

The love for the Ishapore enfields is mutual. There are quite a few members here who love the enfields. But the fact that a common Indian citizen lke me we can't own them is ......

Regards

By the way, what guns do you own, being in Washington and all??
Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Welcome, Blackmatt. I have an RFI 2A, myself, and I do like it very much.

Please post any photos you might have of anything from Ishapore. I'm sure it would be more than appreciated here.

I am slowly assembling an Indian L1A1 (Ishapore 1A). In the USA we can own semi-automatic versions of military rfiles so long as they contain a certain number of USA manufactured parts. A small industry has developed to make these USA parts to comply with the law. Ussually they are small parts easy replaced by the home gunsmith but the big exception is the receiver. All military receivers from foreign military automatic rifles are desroyed at the time of importation into the USA. So, my Ishapore does not have its original receiver. What a pity, actually. The good news is that a company in California is about to make good copies of Indian receivers right down to the correct inscriptions.

Once I'm able to buy a receiver I'll just need to find a few parts before Ihave everything I need.

Hey Blackmatt, welcome to IFG! Glad to see the line of interest.

I'm pleasantly surprised that reproductions of Indian IA Receivers are being made there. In all probability they'll be infinitely, infinitely, infinitely better in quality than the 'originals'.

Of course, for a purist, one wouldn't get it right unless its made rather 'badly' .... :)

Inscriptions on most Indian military rifles seem to be CNC'd at very low resolution.

Hope the repro receivers are not simply lifts from the British L1A1, for there are a number of subtle differences.

regards,

Washington is a beautiful (and wet) state.
Theres good hunting in washington. So do you hunt as well?
