Hi to all IFGians from Nitin

A very warm hi to all IFGians. Thanks to you guys, I have learned a lot about the game as well as the equipments. Just a brief intro about me....am a mech engineer working as a Sr. Engineer with Power Grid Corporation at its Delhi Regional office. Aged 30 years...married .....and a die hard fan of shooting...........Have been posted at Kabul for a GoI assistance project.....and have had the good luck of firing some shots with an AK-47 (of my Governement provided guard's). I seriously thibk that in Kabul people give their kids AKs to play with. They figure in everyone's hands and are like the omnipresent policewallah's lathi in India. You will think about Bullets, well they get them not by numbers but by weights.....My guard there told me that they would bet for 10 Afghanis in a shooting match and fire 10 rounds each (i.e. 1 Afghani per shot!!!!) ......guess what!!! cheaper than a H&N finale pellet.

Well I have got my first airgun at the age of may be 7-8 years. Used to carry it everywhere. Shot it in the home, in the yard, in the fields.....and god knows wherenot. I do not remember the name but it was a springer. The spring lock inside it broke after around 1 1/2 years or so, so got my father to repair it. Loved it and still this gun lies at my home.....However, now after careful and exhaustive study of the posts on this website, I am all set get a brand new one from abroad. However, I need help from fellow IFGians as the form for membership of NRAI needs to be submitted by a member and is to be endorsed by another member. And without this membership, the dream shall remain a dream.......I am confused between taking ISSF Level shooting or plinking....See the fact is my aim is good.....but really when I saw the specs of the match target, I think one has to have a eagel's eye to see the 10's ring. In my case, I could only see the largest black ring..... So if anyone can guide me.....is it really so that a person can see a 0.5 mm radius ring at 10 mtrs or a person shoots by targetting the dead centre (or what he thinks to be the dead centre) of the smallest visible ring.... If it needs the eye of an eagle then I will go for plinking.........

So I have zeroed in to two guns....For ISSF shooting the standard 700 Alu Feinwerkbau and for plinking Air arms TX200 Mark III. So my dear fellow IFGians do guide me in my dilemma and also in any case I request two delhi residing IFGians who are member of NRAI to kindly help me in obtaining a membership. Looking forward to your valuable inputs and help.....regards.... Nitin

Welcome to IFG, Nitin.

Why don't you get down to Siri fort range and try your hand on the air rifles available there?? You'll get a hang of it and then later on you can go in for your rifles.

Regards

@Prabhath : Thanks mate for the compliment. However, I have this ofrum to thank for it as it has introduced me to pyramid air and its extremely useful reviews. But sadly to own any of the quoted guns, first a membership in a NRAI affiliated club or NRAI itself is mandatory. Really want help in this regard.
@M24 : Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I was actually planning for it. Can you help me out by just clarifying some things like anyone can go to siri fort and shoot or a membership is needed. If anyone can shoot then do they also provide good quality rifles to shoot and if yes what is the charge. What is average cost of shooting say a full match of 60 shots in Sirifort. I hope i am not troubling you a lot with my questions, but its really better to have an Idea of money involved as I am doubtful that they will accept credit card.
@Shooter : Took your advice mate and so no more..... Oops my last one!! sorry!!!
@All IFGians : Gents and ladies please help me in obtaining a membership as I seriously want to pursue shooting. Please please!!!

My Two Cents

1. You need NOT to be a Member of NRAI in order to import Air Rifle , Any local club will serve that pupose probably with much less hassale.

2. Before Investing a huge , you better try your hands on Various Model like Walther/Anshutz/FWB, who knows you may like the other one your friends got. Siri Fort is a good option here, I am not sure about the price may be others can help you on this.

3. You Dont need an Eagle Eye, I have cylindrical vision on my eyes with minus power. You will be seeing the bull as a whole and not the 0.5 ring. You have to center the sight picture through peep sight to shoot perfect 10.

4. At lastly both of the rifle you decided are excellent , go for both one after another

Dear Saptarishi, Thanks for the feedback. I am going to try in Siri fort and lets see what happens. Also I will try the guns available there and see what I can do. I too have a negative power of -2.5 and thats why the question. However, I guessed that you can just see the bull as a whole and shooting the centre is a matter of steady hands and concentration but nice to get get it confirmed by experienced shooters. I will definitely get back to you with the results achieved in Siri fort. Looking forward to go there this weekend.
Thanks again and I will definitely seek the valuable advice and guidance of fellow IFGians like you.
Regards,
Nitin

Nitin,

Any one can visit the Sirifort range. You can take membership( details available at the counter), if you plan to visit daily.

Here are the hourly charges:

1) One hour at the range costs Rs. 150 which includes the rifle charges. Rifle available at present is Steyr LG 100.
2) Pellets costs Rs. 1.50 per pellet.
3) Targets cost Rs. 2 per target.

So an hour at the range with 40 pellets and 4 targets would cost you Rs. 218.

You can take the metro and get down at Green Park station. An auto would charge you Rs. 20 to the range or you can just walk down.

Regards

Dear M24,
Thanks for the detailed info. I am looking forward to this saturday for my first tryst with Sirifort. Well the deal's cheaper than my estimates. Actually coming daily may be hard, being married !! Not so easy to explain daily late evenings to wife!! She will definitely think I got a new Girl friend.

But just one more info request. Will taking a membership at sirifort enable me to import a rifle???

Thanks for your patience.

Regards,
Nitin

Siri fort range is just a facility and is a part of the DDA Sports Complex. Membership of the range doesn't entitle you to import a Air-rifle. You will have to join a rifle club / rifle association for the same. Check with either NRAI, DSRA or any registered club in Gurgaon.

Sir, I come again to my original question. Can any gentleman/lady in this forum extend his/her kind help to me in becoming a NRAI member by proposing and seconding my application. I know that its difficult to convince people just on the basis of a request on net and as such, if any one wants me to contact him/her personally along with my credentials, I shall be more than happy to do so. But please please do this for me. Regarding Gurgaon, no rifle club exists here, I saw a thread in this forum showing that the Haryana State Rifle Association is registered somewhere in Faridabad but I will still prefer to be a NRAI member.

Waiting for the magnanimous offer of help/support.
regards,
Nitin

I ain't a member of any association or club. So can't help you on that.

Go to the Buy / Sell: Wanted section and put in your request there. If any forum member replies, take it from there.

Dear IFGians residing in Delhi,

Please come forward to help me in obtaining membership in either DSRA or NRAI. One of my friend is visiting Germany shortly and I plan to have him order a FWB 700 Alu for me...hoping to get a better price in Germany than from America. However, by the time it reaches Delhi customs, I want to have the membership ready so as to be able to get it cleared.

Please help !

Regards,

Nitin

Dear all,
Took M24's advice and am Just back from Siri fort range. Voila they give FWB for rent. Boss I don't know the model (it was a single pump, pneumatic rifle) but the gun's damn heavy but very Accurate. But my luck, the gun had a right hand grip making my life further miserable (very difficult as the stock was literally bruising the skin between thumb and finger) . Asked the person manning the reception that if he had any thing for lefty, but alas!
He again gave air pistol's targets first hoping that I will definitely miss them entirely. But impressed him as much to make him give rifle targets. :) The accuracy increased as more shots were fired. He was further impressed when I was able to close two traps. :D However, the following sums up whats going on in my mind:

1. Need to get a left handed or ambi dextrous gun.
2. Weight has to be looked into. This one feels heavier than necessary.
3. The person there told me that if I take a membership in Siri fort range, than may be I will be able to import a rifle on its ID. However, Jaspal ji is off to Dehradun so this aspect can only be confirmed on his return.
4. Definitely going tomorrow again to see the progress. Tomorrow I shall try to keep all shots within 7 ring. Let's see.

IFGians do drop your valuable advice for shooting with a righty gun till mine comes through. One more thing, see it seems that obtaining membership of any SRA or NRAI may take quite a long time. So do you think that investing 25-27 thousand bucks in IHP PCP is worth??

Regards,

Nitin
