Custom guns and Restorations by my friend Dave Norin

Dave has a very large CD catalogue of his work from which I shall post if I have his permission. In the meantime, which is the best gun in your opinion? :)

Grumpy and Mark have met Dave along with me and seen some of his work. He prefers Mauser actions and has been doing an increasing amount of work on Mannlichers these days. He is an ACGG accredited gunsmith and also teaches gunsmithing at the Trinidad State College in Colorado.

PS My favourite would be the 505 Gibbs on the Enfield action.

Can't really pick and choose as it's all good.

Grumps, that Purdey has what appears to be two gas checks on the right fence. I don't suppose they are both gas checks, so what could the extra screw be?

Damned good question Dodger......and I haven`t a clue what the answer is. Well spotted. It isn`t typical of Purdeys of the period because I can`t remember ever seeing a gun like this before.
The lower screw looks most like a gas check but what the other one is I have no idea.....it would be a bizarre and unnecessary way to lock the striker disks. I don`t like the location of the lower screw as a gas check either because it would direct gases back towards ones face.
Mehul, the next time you see Dave you`ll have to ask him about this.

Asif, the Daniel Fraser falling blocks are nice but the Farquharsons are nicer !

Will go back and re read the Fraser article , got the juices going Grumpy!
There was a major issue with CNC and other machining during the restoration of this piece.My partiality to big bores makes me plonk for the 505 Gibbs...
