Discovery Riflescope VT-Z 3-12X44SF versus VT-1 4-16X42 AO

Post by nikitagupta2106 » Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:08 pm

I understand SF scope can adjust the parallax because it's always within reach while AO is usually out of reach while shooting.

However, is there any advantage to buying the AO version since it has 16x as compared to the 12x in the SF version? Both cost the same Rs 9900 and 10,000.

I don't quite understand what do you say about parallax difference of these scopes.
The main deference between them is diameter of the tube. 44 vs 42. 44 should be lighter and better. Also VT-Z has better and more comfortable turrets. As for parallax VT-Z has a turret for it's correction and it should be more precise in comparison with what i see on VT-1.
If you check Ali Express they don't have VT-Z 3-12X44SF any more. It was superseded by VT-3 3-12X44 SF FFP I think. And this one is much better than VT-1 4-16X42 AO .
That's my personal opinion.

Thanks for your inputs. So 42 vs 44 make a huge difference?! I thought the 12x vs 16x would make a bigger difference in choosing the scope.

VT-3 3-12X44 SF FFP is Rs 15800!! I am just starting and don't want to spend that much.

I own three scopes.
1. Nikon 3x32mm P223.
2. Tasco 3-9x40mm.
3. Vortex Optics Diamondback 4-12x40mm Second Focal Plane.

I have used all three with my IOF .30-06 Sporting Rifle. I have noticed that you do not need more than 10x magnification.
First Focal Plane (FFP) and Second Focal Plane (SFP) are also important aspects while choosing the scope.

Can you please share details of the source you buy riflescopes from? Also can you please tell how one can mount scope on iof .3006, or someone who can do it for me.

I bought the first and second riflescopes from amazon.in and Vortex from amazon.com.

IOF .30-06 Sporting Rifle has 11 mm rail engraved on the receiver. You can use 11 mm scope rings with that but as .30-06 Springfield is a powerful cartridge, the scope will lose its zero often. So you need to install a 20 mm Picatinny rail on the rail provided by the factory. For that, you need to contact a gunsmith. The upper portion of the rifle varies from model to model, so select the rail which sits perfectly. After that, you need scope rings with 20 mm base to mount the scope.

I got it done from Chandigarh as I live in Jammu.

Regards.

DISCOVERY VT-R 3-12X42 SFIR is Rs 9,999 while DISCOVERY VT-R 3-9X40 LONG RANGE LIGHT WEIGHT SCOPE is Rs 6999. Do you think it's worth paying the difference of Rs 3,000 for the 3-12x42?

I have came across lots of discovery scopes from their cheapest to their High end ones, from the way i see it VTR and VTZ are their budget offerings and in terms of quality also. comparing them to VT-1 series they may have offer some features which the vt-1 may not have but in tearms of bulid quality, Turret quality, shock proof and glass clarity the vt-1`s are way better. So, for me i will choose the vt-1 series any day.
