Hi Bhaskar,

It certainly is legal. As long as it is licensed. The biggest problem is that all semi automatics other than NPB pistols are classed as Prohibited Bore. While the more correct terminology would be "restricted bore/type" since at least in theory, the arms act has provisions for issue of PB licenses... as Sanjay says.

A common misconception that one will encounter is that of .22LR semi-auto rifles being considered NPB. I've come across numerous instances of such arms issued as NPB (Specifically because of the bore and thus the dangers of flawed terminology...which the babus cant seem to figure)- As long as they are semi-auto, even a .22LR rifle would be PB subject to the authority of the MHA. The only relaxation in the case of a .22 SA would be if you can show proof of membership and participation in competitive shooting with a recognized club/association...or something to that effect.

regards,
