It was really disappointing to see the low quality pistol from Sheikh Arms, the first privately made handgun recently.

On the other side, atleast some change happened since 1986 from when import was banned.

One thing is not clear that whether these companies will be manufacturing for government or civilians or both.

Yes, this is the first change since 1986 ban.
I believe as the industry will mature quality will improve. But I doubt that any innovations will happen soon, most of the arms will be copies or licensed copies.

Thank you for the post is there are any more new company who have got the licence please let us know. Looks like most of them are well established business in other fields. I wanted to know if it was possible for startups to get the licenses. MHA is asking net worth certificate of companies how would a small time startup who want to enter this sector get a license. How was Sheikh Arms able to get the license dont not seem like a big company.

So they are doing arms from 3-4 generations? Means they had licence before only?

Yes they had license before only to manufacture sbbl guns ,Explosive for cannons and other things related to arms and ammunition. So was easy for them.

Is the Sheikh Arms pistol really that bad? Would an individual be better off going for the IOF pistol?

Hi . I have booked the pistol was supposed to get the delivery on this 27th may but due to lockdown time has increased.
I don’t think so it will be bad as all the product are tested from RFI ,even if they are bad are far more better in looks than iof products and surely the quality will be good as compared to them .

Many more companies are coming like webley which will be of far better quality than IOF product.

So Webley is starting manufacturing in India, why haven't they announced this on their website? https://www.webleyandscott.com

Webley has stopped manufacturing of revolvers since 1963. Some private company named Sial Manufacturer Pvt Ltd will be manufacturing revolvers using Webley name.

I doubt original Webley will put any effort in the manufacturing. Because Original Webley has stopped manufacturing of revolvers from last 55 years, it doesn't effect them if anyone use their name by paying them some royalty.

Would it have been possible for Sial pvt Ltd. to use the name of Smith and Wesson. No, because they are very much in business and they will not allow anyone to ruin their name.
