It is possible to get a PB license if you have inherited it OR you are a VIP/VVIP or kin of a VIP/VVIP

Is the .40 S&W PB or NPB?

Also, is there any way to buy an NPB pistol (and the ammo) online and have it delivered and registered via a third party? I'm asking because most online sites selling firearms (like http://www.budsgunshop.com, for example) give you much better quality guns for around 1/3rd the price you need to pay for a shitty little .32 ACP here.
Guns don't kill people; people kill people. If guns kill, then by that same logic, don't pencils make spelling mistakes?

a) Please take the time to read the first page of this thread - http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2780 - PB calibres are clearly mentioned therein, all other calibres are NPB

b) Short answer - NO! For details please read http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2779

Cheers!

I did, actually; I didn't find the .40 S&W there, but I just wanted to confirm, since the .40 is bigger than the PB 9x19 Luger/Parabellum.

Might have to consider getting a U.S job for a year just to get my hands on a good gun...

Classification of PB is not based on size of the caliber...though for some odd reason many including a lot of babus have convinced themselves otherwise.

I always thought it was size-based, too (I'm no babu, though    )

Thanks for clearing that up, anyway.

I always thought it was size-based
PB/NPB has nothing to do with diameter of the bore or the ballistic properties. For detailed explanation may read http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 43#p115943

Please read the above mentioned thread, as stated by abhijeet, it defined NP and P bore in indian context only.

Hi folks,

I did read the first PB list and I am led to believe the answer is yes. But this question is more out of disbelief that the babu's would allow this.

Can anyone confirm that 5.56mm NATO is not prohibited bore? My apologies for having to repeat yourself. It would be interesting and funny, if you can bring in .50cal too! I would do it just for the fun of watching what unfolds at the airport.

Maybe these are covered by "such other arms as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify to be prohibited arms; "? If anyone knows where to find this Gazette, let me know.

Thank you

Pratap

Gfreeman welcome to IFG.
I did read the first PB list and I am led to believe the answer is yes.
If I go by the available information on the internet, I am also led to believe the answer is yes. If we refer the MHA website at http://mha.nic.in/uniquepage.asp?Id_Pk=538 it says "Prohibited Bores - Arms Rules, 1962 - Schedule I - categories I(b) and I(c)." Going by this if we read Arms Rules, 1962 - Schedule I - categories I(b) and I(c) we do not find 5.56mm NATO to be listed or anything that clearly says that any service ammunition is prohibited bore.

Arms Rules 1962 was created by powers delegated by Parliament to the Executive under Section 44(1) of Arms Act 1959 and has subsequently acquired force of law with approval of Parliament as mentioned in Section 44(2)(m) of Arms Act 1959. Has Parliament contrary to Section 44(2)(m) of Arms Act 1959(which says "Every rule made under this section...")delegated its power to Executive under Arms Act 1959 to make addition/ changes to prohibited bore list in Arms Rules, 1962 - Schedule I - categories I(b) and I(c) by notification in the Official Gazette? If yes then under which Section of Arms Act 1959 Parliament empowers the Executive with this?
It would be interesting and funny, if you can bring in .50cal too!
If it is not listed as prohibited bore and you have the import license OR you are willing to fight it in court.
Maybe these are covered by "such other arms as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify to be prohibited arms; "?
Prohibited arms are different from prohibited bore arms. Central Government is empowered to specify prohibited arms as per Section 2(1)(i)(ii) of Arms Act 1959. Which is the Section of Arms Act 1959 that empowers the Central Government to to make addition to prohibited bore list in Arms Rules, 1962 - Schedule I - categories I(b) and I(c) by notification in the Official Gazette?
If anyone knows where to find this Gazette, let me know.
1) http://india.gov.in/documents.php
2) http://egazette.nic.in/
3) http://supremecourtcaselaw.com/Gazette_ ... ations.htm
4) http://gazetteofindia.org/
5) Do RTI with MHA. In the RTI do not ask if 5.56 mm NATO is prohibited bore or non prohibited bore. Ask is there any Notification issued in the Official Gazette related to prohibited bores list issued by MHA in addition to the prohibited bores listed in Arms Rules, 1962 - Schedule I - categories I(b) and I(c)? If yes please provide the copy of same.
