Importing a sword...

Post by TenX » Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:05 pm

Hello all...
I found this website which has some collection of swords of all types.
http://www.weaponmasters.com

Some of the swords are pretty cheap too...

http://www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/C ... 17188.html
http://www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/O ... c-257.html

When I contacted them, they sent a reply stating that they do deliver to Indian addresses, provided that it is mentioned in 'English' :)

Below is part of their message:
------------------------
We do ship to your country. Please make sure your shipping address is correct, especially the postal code, also please make sure that you use only English characters, as this is what our system understands.

We do not know if your country's customs department will allow the items that you want into your country. To be sure that they do please call your customs department and ask them and also ask them if there is anything else you need to do. We have heard that some countries require additional paperwork to be done before they allow the item(s) into the country.

We work diligently with our shipping partners when sending packages international. We fulfill all legal requirements when shipping our memorabilia items. As the end user – you would be required to handle all necessary VAT and other tax requirements specific to your country as this falls outside of WeaponMasters responsibilities. Therefore please call your customs department if you have any other questions.

--------------------------

What I need to know is:
1. Is it allowed to import such blades thru courier/post?
2. Are there any formalities to be considered?
3. Like rifles/pistols which require some club membership for air guns, are there any considerations for importing swords?
4. What would be the additional monetary burden in the name of tax and duty :)

Any and all input is appreciated.
