Prices kill , more than that they deflate the aspirations even before they get wings

In my limited experience, prices in this market depend a lot on the customer, maybe others can get a better rental price than that stated above... As they say online YMMV

It depends on how well you know the owner and his/her disposition.
People shoot borrowed weapons for as low as free.

IOF site cites the .315 range at 275m which falls short of the 300m by about 25m. Now given that the bullet will travel a bit further than stipulated range, adjusting the trajectory flight plus the external factors like light and wind, on an Indian rifle means the bronze medal guy deserves credit akin to the gold medal.

BTW, is the sling & shooting jacket compulsory ? Does it have to be made of canvas/ leather or say a material like tweed is OK as long as ISSF measurements and design factors are met with ? My Qn is generally applicable to OS/ PS and specifically to OS category. Thanks in advance.

Dear Ramandeep, Apart from Hyderabad, Kadarpur (Gurgaon) and Mhow (MP) are other places. Think the NRAI publishes a shooting calendar for the year and also gives out the notice for the same. Not sure how one qualifies for the BB Mavlankar, but that's the entry point for BB Nationals. The rumour I heard is that BB is making a comeback into Olympics. So another chance for another medal for India.

Any one who has travelled to mhow and participated in the event.

Main thing is that how easy is it to get around city, transportation and the accomodation.

Fancying some thoughts about it.

Also open sight is still an valid event, since in the current state and nationals they have removed open sight in 25 and 50 meter events.

Thenrai is mute spectator in this "" BigBore"" affair. People are allowed to charge 50 to 70 thousands of rupees excluding ammo which again costs around 7000/- for practice and another for the match.This is open extortion. We must have an open sight discipline match using out of the box IOF 30-06, 315 upto nationals, which has to be free style without any equipment like coat, glove,sling except spectacles.
This will stop this fleecing and bring out real marksmanship within the general public.
Lot of hidden talents and wisdom of equipment free shooters can be found and recognized.

valid point . but lets focus back on the immediate one .

30-06 with jacket and sling should allow one to participate in open sight, right.

Any inputs on getting around in mhow, how easy or difficult it is. Also is the ammo available for practice and competition

The prices are certainly high, having said that, as per my understanding:

a) Unlike .22 LR match rifles, big bore match rifle barrels have a limited life (for peak accuracy). This is varies as per calibre, but there is definite wear and tear and there is going to be a replacement cost involved for the owner.

b) Without these people to rent out match rifles, most people (me included) can never hope to participate in this event. So while they might be charging a premium, they are most certainly providing a much needed service.

c) There is an open sight match in the GVM, but there are few participants as you must shoot an ISSF event to get the much coveted "renown shot" certificate. As far as I know all matches in the National shooting championships are as per ISSF rules & regulations, I don't see how NRAI can make an exception for big bore rifle.

d) I am not sure if it is true, but I have heard rumours that NRAI has/ is planning to import big bore match rifles for renting out to shooters who do not have their own equipment (at GVM/ Nationals).

1. A spare barrel including CIF and import duty to delhi wont cost more than 3000 euros. So the high prices some charge certainly isnt right as each owner gets around 5 lakhs easy per mavlankar & national event(people usually shoot the same rifle after qualifying in the mavlankar) so the same rifle barrel can be utilized for 4 years easy.
2. Amen to point 2 above. Without these chaps others couldnt expect to start and participate.
3. NRAI is beyond reason as this is also the event where we go to mavlankar directly because me thinks not more than 2-3 states can or want to conduct big bore matches.
4. The rumours were that they were getting two rifles. That wont be enough and you'll only see connected people getting them. They should loosen their purse strings and get say 20 rifles! Now that'll be a fillip to indias big bore aspirations(if any )

AVAILABILITY OF BIG BORE RIFLES

NRAI 18 Feb 2016 , The following weapons will be available for participants of 25th All India G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship and 59th National Shooting Championship Competitions in Big Bore events scheduled to be held at Kadarpur Shooting Ranges:-

6mm Free Rifles – Two
.308 Free Rifles – One
6 mm Standard Rifles – Two
.308 Standard Rifles – Two

The above Rifles will be given out on hire @ Rs. 5000/- plus service tax as applicable, to each shooter per detail per match.

The Shooter has to also deposit a sum of Rs. 5000/- as security deposit which will be returned to him/her as and when the weapon is returned to the officer in-charge in good condition to the officer’s satisfaction. The Shooters who avail this facility must return the weapon duly cleaned to the satisfaction of the officer in-charge.

In case, the Shooter fails to do so, he/she will have to pay a sum of Rs. 500/- plus service tax which will be deducted from the security deposit along with the cost of damages, if any, and the balance will be refunded.

This facility will be on first come first serve basis and shooters have to register themselves at the Shooting Ranges well in advance.

The decision of the allotment of these weapons for use of the shooters will be solely of the officer in-charge.
