Competetion 'terms'

Post by conty1 » Wed Sep 06, 2006 11:30 pm

Aurora Sportsmen's club invites general public to participate in a competetion once a month. I need clarification for what this means:

"This is match shooting only, not open shooting. "

I think you can only shoot the "program". Say if they're shooting a match of 50 16yard Trap and 50 handicap, this is the program. You have to shoot the program, you can't just go and say you want to shoot 50 singles and that's it.

That's what I think, I've had crow before.

Basically it is what HSharief said. There are officially sanctioned courses of fire for every discipline.

For instance, High Power matches are usually the following:

Standing, 200 yds., slow-fire (10 shots in 10 minutes)
Sitting or kneeling, 200 yds., rapid-fire (10 shots in 60 seconds)
Prone, 300 yds., rapid-fire (10 shots in 70 seconds)
Prone, slow-fire, (20 shots in 20 minutes)

Pistol is usually the following:

Slow Fire: 50 yards, 10 shots in 10 minutes
Timed Fire: 25 yards, two five-shot strings, each in 20 seconds
Rapid Fire: 25 yards, two five-shot strings, each in 10 seconds

You have to put that disclaimer in or people show up who can shoot a 1 hole group at 100 yards but get all ticked off because they've never shot at 300 yards before and miss the target totally.
